The CPB was founded by the founding father of Myanmar/Burma, Aung San, but he split due to ideological differences to form the Anti-Fascist People’s Freedom League.

From the 1940s to 1989, the CPB was one of the few rebel forces in Myanmar that was not ethnic-based. The overthrown president U Nu, led a small force called the Patriotic Liberation Army; however, that faction was relatively unpopular and considered unimportant to the CIA.

The CPB eventually splintered and dissolved in the 1980s; the two splinter factions are the MNDAA and UWSA. Eventually, the second iteration of the CPB formed in 2021 to oppose the current junta; they’re still fighting and are allied with the ethnic militias.

As for the weapons, the M1 Carbines are likely WW2 leftovers; the M16s were probably smuggled from Vietnam, and the G3s are captured from Ne Win’s forces.
