  1. Wow, it’s almost as if they would’ve known this if they listened to consumers and not Wallstreet…

If you don’t think game engineers are using AI tools to write code, you’re gonna have a bad time.

It’s going to be ubiquitous– even if you can’t see the end result. That’s a fact.

They wanna produce fake games, I’ll pay them in monopoly money. You wanna make a profit from your services? That’s cute. I want something that actually works and delivers your promises, don’t promise and promote the next „Skyrim“ if it can’t even live up to the original space invaders.

I really think this is shortsighted. AI does not have to mean taking creative jobs away. It can mean automating code so games are turned around faster, developers can spend more time being creative, and/or reduce crunch so they can actually love.

I want humans to get to do the beautiful work we love. I also want to make the dredge easier for a difficult industry.

AI lowers the barrier to development by a lot, so I predict a flood of new indie games. Some will be successful, and resistance to AI in games will fade away.

Is this mainly about AI produced art?

Haven’t NPC characters in games kind of always been controlled by some kind of rudimentary AI?

I’m old. I’ve been a gamer since the 1970s and I can see not wanting to use AI produced art because it puts human artists out of work, but i thought gamers would be more accepting of better/more complex NPC AI that could possibly drive more emergent gameplay within games. Is the current AI just still too dumb to work like that?

Haha I got turned down from a couple jobs because I dont use AI… now I’m late to the game .. have no choice, I hope this shit fades away but in reality I will not…. We just need to do proper code reviews and testing

  8. Since the article is paywalled, I’ll just comment on the headline.

No, in general this approach (refusal to accept any use of AI) is bullshit.

If used properly, it can speed up the development and help to achieve better results overall. One example I can think of is the alters – some supplementary illustrations describing the alternative choices a character took are generated using AI. And it’s not bad at all.

If you don’t have any vision for your game and/or generally lack the necessary skills, AI won’t save it. Examples are numerous – a ton of barely though-through 1-click „games“, that used to be just examples from the game-engine library. Now they are generated using AI.

  9. Perhaps the reason isn’t the use of AI, but the fact that the games are shit?.pretty sure the consumers would play the shit out of any game if its awesome even if AI was involved in making some of it. The problem is studios are trying to cut corners too quickly through the use of AI, instead of using it to help with the creative moment. AI should be a tool, not a worker replacement.

„Gamers are not falling for AI slop being forced into games by gaming studio management“ fixed their headline

  11. So are mods just wiping the comments in this thread or what’s going on?

Your favorite game was made with AI tools btw. It’s been a part of the industry for decades now. Not understanding how game development works doesn’t make it not true no matter how hard you slam the downvote button.

  13. This is the best news I’ve heard in a good minute. Games are a collaborative art that AI has no place in.

My issue is less that they ai, a few games I’ve played have and it was implemented well. My issue is ai was allegedly going to bring the prices down, but no, they scrapped employees, used ai in their place, and sold the game at the same price but made more profit for themselves.

No thankyou I’d rather just play a game that retains its employees and pays them fairly, and now I actively avoid ai slop at all costs

  15. Keep telling me how this absurdly expensive shit that wrecks the planet and nobody wants is inevitable

  16. GameGuy2025 on

The problem with listening to consumers is most consumers are idiots. I don’t go to the doctor and tell them how they should do their job if they want my money because I don’t know medicine. That logic should be universal.

  17. If something didn’t require human effort, time, and intent to make, then it isn’t worth your limited time to consume.

I was excited to buy the new ANNO game by Ubisoft a few months ago until I learned that much of the art was AI-generated. Guess who is now boycotting the game? We vote with our wallets, and we are winning!!! Keep it up!!!

God forbid these developers might have to start making games that actually cater to the interests of gamers if they want to actually make money.
