Some 40,000 Iraqi soldiers died in Desert Storm. 1,400 Kuwaitis died as did 300 Coalition soldiers. At a conservative estimate, Hussein’s postwar repressions killed 30,000 Kurdish and Shi’ite civilians in the North and South of his country. Some estimates go up to 100,000.

5,000 Iraqi soldiers and civilians died in the initial 2003 invasion, against 172 US-UK dead. These numbers skyrocketed in the civil war and insurgency from 2003 to 2011. Anywhere between 150,000 and 200,000 Iraqis died in these eight years. These numbers include 120,000 civilians, of which the majority died by insurgents, militias, and terrorist activity. Roughly 27,000 insurgents and 18,000 Iraqi Security Force personnel died in this phase. So did 4,500 Americans.

The war against ISIL has also caused catastrophic losses. Over 20,000 Iraqi troops, police and militia have been killed, as have 2,000 Kurdish Peshmerga fighters. Between 50,000 and 70,000 ISIL militants have died. 70,000 civilians have died.

Another 9,000 have died since 2017.

Second photo of the F-18 is an incredibly photo. If I was that pilot I would have that framed in every room of my house.
