The old song and dance. Everybody complains and expects magical solutions from someone else, but as soon as a solution touches their own backyard, they refuse.
These articles would be so much better if we could target better questions and insights.
For example, only 46% of people refuse to build higher buildings (more than 6 floors) in their county (Gemeinde).
The thing is, we don’t give a shit about the average. We need the opinion of those living in the highly dense area (Zurich, Geneva, Lausanne, Basel) because this is where we need these high rises and the need for more home. This is where people complain about the lack of home.
Well, if you don’t allow change, change will never happen.
I personally base my vote almost exclusively on who is willing to end the housing crisis and guess what? All major parties just give a „The housing crisis is bad, mkay?“ answer. Why? Because housing is an issue that is affecting the young, immigrants and the poor – aka people who are not a relevant demographic for winning elections in this country because they don’t want or can’t vote.
Those new high building will probably be overpriced for us normal people who actually need it!
All of you, earning more the 120k per year, need to pay my rent from now on 🙂
NIMBYs block or inflate the costs of infrastructure and housing projects massively and are thus one of the major causes of the decline of Western civilisation.
Those old ass (above 40) people living in subsidised apartments in Zurich are really part of the problem. I talked to many and they simply refuse to build higher buildings even in secluded placed outside of Kreis 1. But they complain that there are less apartments for their kids and ironically they don’t see the problems with migration. Not against migration, but it has to be sustainable resp. if we build more, nobody gives a shit – we can be happy.
The wet dream of the Swiss is to relocate foreigners in the neighboring countries and have a pipe to bring them to work in the morning and back home in the evening so Switzerland stays untouched.
