      This is misleading. They aren’t set to “operate” at the event – aka there is no help being provided to event security.

      However… it does seem like they will be “security” for the American athletes, and any officials that come with them. Apparently it is normal for each team to be allowed to bring their own security.

      So yeah, they’ll be there and most likely quite quite obvious too.

      Why though? To keep the athletes from talking but also as a message to the international community unfortunately.

      Italian State Police sources said Monday that ICE agents are not set to provide security for the United States government at the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympics, after reports that the controversial federal agency would be involved in protecting American athletes sparked alarm.
          „To date there are no signed cooperation agreements for the Olympics,“ the sources said.
          „All public order and security activities in Italy are managed, without the possibility of exceptions, by the Ministry of the Interior and its territorial arms: the prefectures and police headquarters.
          „It does not appear, at the moment, that USA ICE agents are coming with the American delegation to escort it.
          „The make-up of the US security escort, in fact, has not yet been communicated by their authorities“.
          Earlier on Monday Lombardy Governor Attilio Fontana said ICE agents would only have a very limited role at the Winter Olympics.
          „ICE will only be here to watch over US Vice President (JD) Vance and Secretary of State (Marco) Rubio,“ Fontana said.
          „So it will only be in a defensive measure.
          „I am convinced that nothing will happen.“
