  1. Man. I was always solidly behind the F-35 choice… But this guy is really triggering the „Fuck you I won’t do what you tell me“ part of my brain.

They should have thought of that before they decided to be pricks about everything. Who builds those things? Everything points to them being short of expansion capital. I’m trying to short something

Optimistic of him to assume F35’s would be more likely to be in flyable condition if they were needed to intercept Russian incursions.

Then why on earth would we spend billions of dollars of our treasure on the program? Just for the privilege of pretending we have any say in the matter?

AA is a lot cheaper then an aerial dog fighter, and looking a lot more useful for the future needs of Canada’s military.

  5. So not buying billions worth of planes is a justification for invading airspace of a sovereign country? I’m tired.

In an emergency those F35s will probably be in the hangar getting maintenance, where they spend the vast majority of their time.

Canada need to steadily eliminate or minimize every vector of leverage that the US has over Canada. Buying F35s and golden dome participation will only increase that leverage.

The problem with purchasing the F35 jets there’s no „kill switch“ but, the U.S. controls necessary technical updates, and potential withholding of these could render the aircraft inoperable. We will always be under Trump’s abuse of power and unable to get away from his abuse.

Americans are desperate. No country wants to buy their cr-apy aircrafts anymore so they are resorting to bullying as usual. What he is stating is against international laws and they are acting like a rogue state demanding to occupying other countries. So what is new. They have lost it.

Can we kick this mouthpiece out of our country. He’s the most idiotic ambassador that’s ever set foot in this country

We’ll invade your space without your consent unless you buy our expensive weapons – which we control. What fresh hell is this?? Expel Hoaxstra already.

This makes absolutely no sense, of course. Our outdated current fleet does not match up to what they have and that’s made no impact on NORAD.

The Americans are going to have to adapt to taking “get stuffed” for an answer.

Comes with the territory when you become completely untrustworthy and unreliable.

So it’s protection money now? America voting for a truly pathetic administration. Please boycott the US if you haven’t already started.

  15. „U.S. will have to send its own fighter jets into Canadian airspace if Ottawa doesn’t buy 88 F-35s.“

OUR airspace. If this is even actually required in the first place, you will ask permission before doing so. The Gripens are much better suited to operating, landing and taking off in the Arctic. Plus, they will be closer to 100% available for duty, as opposed to the F-35s, which are available only 55% of the time to the Americans, who have dibs on all spare parts, no matter which NATO country has them in their possession. So, actually, less than half the time, the planes will be available for duty.

You mean we need to purchase the overpriced, perpetually delayed, consistently buggy, American controlled planes? Nah, we good.

    > If Canada doesn’t go ahead with purchasing 88 of the jets, that would mean the United States would have to buy more of the advanced fighter aircraft for its own air force, Hoekstra told the CBC during a recent interview at Luke Air Force Base in Arizona.

    Ok?

Personally, I think Canada should accept the F 35s just to have a bit of equal-er footing with the US Air Force.

Public “Diplomacy” using threats and coercion.

Sweden incentivized Canada to buy the Gryphon while emphasizing the ties between the two countries.

South Korea is sending a delegation to Canada and will use similar messaging to encourage Canada to buy South Korean subs.

But for some reason our formerly closest ally is using language and tactics that reinforce what Carney said in Davos.
