Dems made mockery of him, gave him a free ride, watched pugs **LOSE** badly in 2008 (John McCain GOOD MAN), got majorities, visited the Heritage Foundation dusted off and took ACA off the shelf and gave Republicans their greatest legislative victory to that day.

Then dems never did anything about Citizens United except collect BILLIONS!

I swear to god reading US news headlines as an outsider makes you feel genuinely insane. How divorced from reality so much of the US seems to be these days is unbelievable.

This was all laid out years ago, every expert on authoritarianism, every person who even has a fraction of a whiff of that shit in their life was ringing alarm bells, YEARS AGO, every step down the path, people were shouting from the goddamned rooftops. The rampant cynicism, the social disconnects, the pollution and politicization of truth, the flooding of public discourse with fear, the collapse of public and collective meaning, the flooding of wealth and private interest in politics, the unbelievable expansion and consolidation of literally unfathomable wealth inequality, the fetishization of crime fighting, prioritizing mass incarceration, the slow degradation of social groups and political groups into the enemy and tribalism, the partisan takeover of courts, the partisan takeover of electoral processes and maps, the mass re-interpretation of the spirit and twisting of the letter of the law, the weaponizations of law, the accusations in the mirror, the reduction of the idea of politics as a fight between the selfish, the „everyone’s the same“ anyway, the flooding of politics with virtue and purity testing, outrage and cancelling, the mass democratic burnout, the cult of personality, the fearmongering, the accusations of foreign threats, the perpetual national emergency, the abuse of emergency power, the casting of national security as imminently threatened, the accusations of terrorists, of drug lords, the lies about tiny minorities being national threats, the purging of the military, the purging of the jag corp and military lawyers, the purging of military leaders, and now, at last, the funding of partisan federal forces. One of the most foundational source of power of all authoritarianism – revolutionaries, partisans, brownshirts, Gestapo, Stasi, NKVD, KGB, SAVAK, SEBIN, Mukhabarat, Securitate, DINA – every regime needs one, and America is getting one. I think the initial brink I felt was within the first month of his inauguration, he was doing things to set things in motion that most people just swatted away as nothing. 2025 had baby brinks all through the year. But 2026, here we go. It started with Venezuela, then Greenland, then invade Minneapolis and execute WHITE AMERICAN CITIZENS on the streets in broad daylight with absolutely no accountability or fear of consequences. Not sure what happens next but these guys aren’t wanting to slow down and seem pretty giddy about what’s next. They have no plans of midterm elections taking place and they will continue to embolden their base and implement their Fascist playbook until they are stopped.
