I suggest you not to give advice to your friend about cars
10-12K is not enough for a new car in Malta.
Your friend will be better off buying a japan import for that money. Cheapest new car I can think of is a dacia sandero with no extras at 18k.
New cars here start from 18k if I’m not mistaken.
For 10-12k it would be best to buy a car imported from Japan, with YOM from 2018 and on.
As soon as you drive a new car out of the sales forecourt the price on it drops up to 30%.
If your budget is the lowest possible, then buying new and losing 3600 (30%) as soon as you drive it does not make sense.
Recommend to your friend to buy a used car and stress to them that if they want comfort that the car will not break down, then buy a car brand that is reliable. Very reliable manufacturers include Lexus, Toyota, Suzuki. Mitsubishi, Honda and Hyundai. I know this list sounds like I’m promoting Asian region cars, but they are the car brands that don’t break down as much as the others.
Buying a car with low to medium mileage is a sensible investment.
