„The most pronounced increases were seen among adults aged 25 and over. In the UK, ADHD medication use in this age group rose more than twenty-fold in women and fifteen-fold in men. Although males remained more likely to receive ADHD medication overall, the difference between sexes narrowed steadily over time.“

Yeah its no surprise with how heavily its been pushed on social media
It’s basically a lot of adults realizing that their „picadillos“ are actually the symptoms of an untreated neurodevelopmental disorder.
Women are still catching up from being under-diagnosed for so long since for decades it was treated as a boy’s diagnosis.
Weed and cbd forward weed.
Does absolute wonders for adhd.
yeah man most women get diagnosed as adults.
Are women more likely to have ADHD-PI (ADD)?
We’ve only just started to properly understand and diagnose ADHD in recent years. We basically have a massive backlog of adults who have gone untreated their entire lives, especially women, I imagine this spike will flatten out over time. I got diagnosed recently in my 30’s (after several years of trying) and it changed my life.
Highly recommend anyone who suspects they have it to go to their doctor and have an assessment.
What percentage of the population is now taking it? An increase from very low rates to nominal rates would just signal a realization that the treatment may be appropriate. I’ve heard that 4% is typical. France was not treating it at all for a long time. This was anecdotes quoted in an old Russell Barkley presentation I watched.
Good. People with some kind of medical issue should get treatment for that issue. Medical accomodations are good, full stop.
For me the difference is the ability to hold on a job or not. Unfortunately this particular neurodevelomental disorder is misunderstood, sometimes misdiagnosed, and judged by most.
It was also sadly and unfortunately changed from ADD to ADHD, confusing people into thinking this disorder is about hyperactivity and behavior and not the likely neurobiological disorder in the executive function of the brain it entails.
Yea they are way overprescribed and some people get prescription just to sell them to buy other drugs or faster acting amphetamines.
People should focus on what actually helps with adhd developing in childhood and to learn ways to manage it better.
Only very very little % who have these amohetamine prescriptions actually needs them. What they need it physical and mental activity and more structure and habits in life. It gets harder to manage if they grow up in ways that are not good for adhd, but still there are ways that help adhd more. Continuing with unsuitable lifestyle that makes adhd worse and then pushing amphetamines on them is not a good way at all.
And im not saying no one needs those adhd drugs, but very rarely people actually need them, and instead need activity and structure.
I know several people who have been prescribed those adhd drugs and every one of them after using them for a while came to the conclusion that they are not good at all for them. So they just sell those adhd drugs to get extra money, or use them for fun occasionally.
I still feel like there is nothing to treat in people with ADHD, the drugs people take to „treat“ themselves, seem very strong.
Which makes sense considering its only been in the last handful of years that doctors have started to even admit women can suffer from it
And now they’re starting to recognize the different presentations between types and between genders
I’d expect it to continue to go up for the foreseeable future
I don’t think phones and social media are helping.
i wonder if this will further impact birth rates, as these types of medications decrease libido and make orgasming harder
Just started medication about a year ago, and it’s been life-changing. I’ve always shown symptoms, but my parents refused to believe there could be anything wrong with me, and as an adult, I was afraid no one would believe me when I told them how much I struggled because no one ever had before. People don’t understand what it’s life to live your life with this perpetual feeling of burnout the minute you try to do something that doesn’t bring instant gratification. Imagine you spent eight hours watching paint dry with no breaks. Now imagine every workday waking up feeling like you literally just got done doing that, and now you’ve gotta do it all over again. No matter how much you try to relax and have fun, you never actually recover, like a phone that can’t hold a charge. Everything even remotely tedious becomes torturously boring. You stare at the pages of your textbook, and all you can think about is everything else that you’d rather be doing. Hell, a lot of the time, I couldn’t even do the things I WANTED to do because that would require some level of work and time to get to when I could just plop my ass down on the couch and browse my phone *right now.* Your living space is always messy because the thought of cleaning becomes overwhelming. You want to do the dishes, but the sink is full of dirty pots and plates, so there isn’t enough space. You can’t move them to the counter because it’s covered in more dishes. You can’t move them to the table because you left your sewing machine there six months ago to hem a pair of pants you bought a year ago that were too long to wear without alterations. You can’t put it away because you still haven’t hemmed the pants. You can’t hem the pants because the chair is covered in laundry you had to move off the bed in order to sleep. And so on and so forth.
