Nuclear submarine made the naval battle a no contest. You cannot put to sea against an SSN in the open ocean unless you have a very modern ASW suit on hand. The air battle was a lot more touch and go as the UK had just retired its last carriers with catapults and thus their AWACs capability, even if it was wildly out of date Fairy Gannets, but they had not replaced it. Both sides were really stretched in the air but the Harriers had a far better, all aspect, infrared missile compared to the Argentinians.
