I very much would support a boycott, but this article misses some crucial context. St Pauli might be the most explicitly left-wing top tier football club in the world. Of course they’d say this! Wake me up when Bayern joins the call…
On the other hand, the Dutch football union has said that a boycott isn’t appropriate „yet“, but that Trump is making things complicated by „demanding a lot“. They seem to consider it more seriously than they ever even did for Qatar. I think if the Greenland story comes back in full we may indeed see a boycott and more.

I think almost nothing would have affected Trump more than a European boycott of the World Cup. And when this comes from the president of St. Pauli, it’s worth discussing. At the same time, such a boycott from Europe would be extremely difficult to implement. Much worse than a full boycott of a Summer Olympics. Trump would have made many provocative statements and threats about 3000% tariffs and the use of nuclear weapons. We had figured that out. We’re getting used to all his nonsense now. USA could be the only country in the World Cup and still loose it. The President only wants the trophy for his collection of ill gotten gains. Don’t come to the USA for the cup, it’s a hellscape of idiots. We have freedoms as citizens that are being taken away, what makes you think they won’t do the same to noncitizens here for the cup.
Germany is a big football federation, and they won’t pull out of the World Cup. I appreciate the sentiment from this football chief, but Germany would never consider pulling out of the most prestigious footballing tournament.
I can’t see teams boycotting, even though they probably should. The best thing they can do is beat the yanks so they don’t get out of the group stages (Paraguay and Australia about to become the most supported teams in the world) and, as doubtful as this is, it would be nice to see players use their platform to call out America.
Just move the games in the US to Canada and Mexico. No need to boycott those countries, they’re still reliable
There should be a separate World Cup: the Peace World Cup, where the US wins directly. The whole world is invited: Russia, North Korea, Afghanistan, Iran, and any other regimes that want to take part.

Even as a soccer fan I am definately for a boycott the World Cup. All the European and South American Countries should unite and not go. Sometimes our values are more important than playing soccer.
