I think „most common“ would be more correct than „most popular“ as last names are rarely chosen.

Slovakia seems to have a more varied diet of surnames given that the most common name is in fact the Hungarian word for Croat with the traditional Hungarian surname spelling.

It is technically „Nováková“ in Czechia, as there is more females holding that surname. And i assume this is the case in pretty much all countries where you have gender-inflected forms
