    1. These laws would not be necessary if parents controlled their kids and taught them early how to behave in public spaces.

Litteraly no fury. It happens every time some service offers a ~calm (hence mostly childfree) segment. In that case, „no kids under 12 in business class“. It’s fine. You’ll find people complaining there’s no daycare at the whorehouse anyway.

    3. Meanwhile, these people have no „fury“ over:

      * free travel for kids under 4
      * huge discount for families (up to 60%)
      * dedicated train sections for children

But a small „no kids“ section is a problem?

    4. Business_Pangolin801 on

Wow hope DB follow. I mean the family sections already help but I would love car 28 or 29 to be kid free.

    5. Aren’t those just the so called „quiet cars“ where everyone is supposed to shut up? Those have been around for years

EDIT: ah, I see. They make it clear in the article

      >The rail firm has now responded to **social media fury** about the “no kids” policy.

Finnish railways divide their intercity services into three classes: a quiet zone („first class“), „comfort“ zone on the upper deck of the restaurant car and then standard class elsewhere. Within standard class there are two sections: one with a play area and one for people travelling with animals.

The play area is often the last to fill – easy to get seats at last moment. The best area is the animal section – that’s where you meet the best travelling companions.

I for one hate sitting near noisy kids where the parent can’t be bother to do any parenting, or at least give the kid some headphones so we don’t all have to listen to their show.

This is an excellent idea that needs rolling out here (my route doesn’t have a quiet carriage)

    8. Another ragebait article. One minister says something stupid to get in the press, the idiots on twitter post a few things..

The futur wasn’t supposed to be this stupid.

    9. TheOnsiteEngineer on

So long as there’s asshats who can’t be bothered to teach their kids appropriate „outdoor, public“ behaviour, I will hate traveling using public transport and would LOVE a no-kids option.

    10. I’d rather have a compartment without parents who don’t care what their kids are doing.

    11. The reason why these kind of restrictions needed is because **parents** too often failing to act like parents towards they kids. They ignore kids crying at their own home and see no reason to treat public spaces any differently.

    12. As a father of 2 kids I’m 100% ok with that. I know kids can be annoying. In Poland intercity trains have a no-noise section and I always choose it when traveling alone. There also also travel with kids parts (too little on my opinion) and try to choose these when with kids. We all pay and want to travel in as much comfort as we can

    13. GeneralCommand4459 on

Wouldn’t a quiet section achieve the same result without excluding families that are able to comply? and they already have these on many services

    14. Tenocticatl on

Sounds like a great idea to me. I’ve been in quiet compartments where some idiot parent just sits down with their noisy child. I say something like „excuse me, this is a quiet compartment“. They get all angry at me „well I’ll just tell my eight year old to not talk then??“ It’s like… just sit somewhere else. I don’t call it out if the train is too busy to find other seats, obviously. I also specifically address the parent, it’s their responsibility. Some people just refuse to let the comfort of others inconvenience them for even a second, and these assholes need to be taught that the world doesn’t revolve around them.

Same with people doing lengthy phone calls on the train. „Hi, sorry, I’m on the train so I can’t talk right now. I’ll call you back later.“ Not that fucking hard, I think.

    15. Call it “quiet car” and no fury.

Man, I’d love “quiet everything”, in airplanes, buses, regular trains…

    16. Lord_Dolkhammer on

In Denmark we have “family zones” in regional trains. More space for prams and a hint for everyone else to stay away if you dont like noise.

    17. This is a non-issue. I think some sections should be for families, some should be no-child sections.

A lot of people want quiet because chances are they are commuting and have just left a household with kids to go to work. They need the calm to mentally prepare for work. Or they have sensory issues that children risk exacerbating.

There should also be family only sections so families get a space to go where the adults in there have a shared understanding that kids are tiny engines of chaos, and no matter how well you’re trying to raise them, they get out of control. Not a single parent wants to be the subject of some edgelord’s next post to childfree because they just happened to encounter their child on a bad day and lack even a baseline level of empathy or understanding that children have just as much a right to be in society as they do.

This is one of those issues where keeping things separate is just the better, more practical idea.

    18. lolschrauber on

This wouldn’t be a necessary thing if kids weren’t so insanely loud and obnoxious.

Yeah, yeah I know, „they’re kids!“ – but I’m sure I’m not the only one with parents who taught us to tone it down a bit in public spaces, and to not be rude to strangers. You never caught us jumping on seats or kicking the back of seats where people are sitting.

    19. There are quiet areas in the first place for cars. But it’s not enforced. The difference if you are enjoying a quiet ride or an insufferable time is just pure luck. Earplug is mandatory anyway in most public spaces because people have too often the main character syndrome.

    20. Don’t do no kids, do silent car, and actually enforce this

Why should kids of all people face discrimination based on a significant amount of bad apples around them?

OK, I want a no boomer car, then, old people are more often coughing without a mask on. And a no Italians car, because its a generally louder society than my boring place of living. I can find a lot of obnoxious behavior highly correlated with specific demographics, to an extent that both right- and left-wingers would downvote me to oblivion, if I call them out, at once.

But, guess what, discriminating elderly and foreigners like that is generally frowned upon. And the same should be the case for kids, IMHO.

Alternatively: Positive discrimination. Family cars and force families to use them until full. If full, well, it is what it is, train is no private ride.

Never in my life have I been inconvenienced by a child while travelling. Teenagers, yes. Children, no. Small babies might start to cry, but that’s usually for a short while, and even if it’s longer, the person suffering the most wpuld be the parent who is the closest to it. I don’t understand why people have so little patience.

    22. Calm_Layer7470 on

This again shows the true sentiment about train travel – it’s only for the poor or weekend travel.

Or, of course, if your employer needs to get a bit greener for PR.

    23. AintNoGodsUpHere on

My last quiet car travel in the Netherlands was full of idiots so quiet with adults mean shit if these „adults“ can’t fucking behavior.

    24. Infamous_Campaign687 on

Is this the same as the dogging section or is there a separate one for that as well?

    25. little_odd_me on

I am very pro this as a mother who travels with her toddler because then any complaints about normal kid behaviour can be met with “shoulda bought the adults only tickets”. I wish we had flights and trains with kids sections, I’d pay extra for a train with a play area.

    26. HoustonsAwesome on

As a person with a loud kid I’m glad these cars exist because it makes me feel less guilty for being there when people have an escape from us

    27. I said it many times, but I am willing to pay extra for flights with no kids too. Every transport method should have a no kids option.

    28. We have a similar „shut the fuck up“ section in Austria, kids are allowed but must behave (they normally behave better than a lot of adults)

    29. Interesting-Copy-657 on

      I don’t get the fury

It’s a section of the train, not a whole train

If you are a kid or have kids use a different part of the train.

I don’t see this as any different to a quiet section or a women’s only section

Just use a different part of the train
