With the military threats against Greenland coming to a close, it appears that US/EU trade relations are back on track. The current leading EU party, the European Peoples Party (EPP), is now pushing for ratification of the trade deal negotiated between US President Donald Trump and President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen in July of last year over objections that the deal is lopsided. It seems like economic concerns are dominant and commercial relations are quickly returning to normal.
Politico is a rag. That trade deal won’t see the light of day.
Let us remember that this « deal » is a farce and a kick in the face of Europeans, who will endure 15% tariffs while theirs are generally much lower on US goods.
Transatlantic relations are not « back on track ». They’re akin to a dude in a corner trying to appease a drunken bear.
They have got to be idiots to make a deal with someone who flip-flops on his words. Going 180 just because he woke on the wrong side of the bed. This is the same country that have just threatened to annex and invade a part of one of your member state. He might say that he won’t use force, but he also already agreed on a trade deal which just several days ago he suddenly basically ripped apart, only for him to tape up those torn up paper.
It’s clear to a donkey that Trump always chickens out when faced with an enemy that is willing to stand their ground. China has proven it, and the EU has just experienced what standing their ground for their interests gets them. Now, is the EU really about to forget the lessons that they have just learned not 48 hours ago?
The eu needs to own that they tucked up by getting in bed with russia and that getting in bed with the us as it is now is a fuckup
People have gotten used to the TACO trade but an even more consistent bet is that European leaders will always fold to Trump’s pressure. The only obstacle to their capitulation is how Trump humiliates them so openly; they would be fine if it were done in private. I would expect Trump to escalate again in the near future as he can trade between security and economics for easy wins.
