  2. The very fact that he felt he needed go address that means that the threat is working, keep it up

  3. Its like he doesn’t know that you cannot tell pension funds what they chose to invest in?

Will retaliate by increasing taxes on US products, that we want to stop using?

And what EU does is not decided by one buffoon at the top. People do.

  5. Ooh shut up Donnie.

At this Point the USA feels like one giant GTA-Online Server filled with angry 13 year olds.

I thought we were too insignificant to make a difference? Why even bother? Why do you care about our chump change?

  8. He can’t stop that with threats.

If the snowball starts rolling on the markets, everyone, including american companies/funds will do it.

The only thing to do is to act reponsibly. Threats like that are not.

Strange EU wasn’t the useless power around?

Started to understand that if they cut europe loose, they get somebody who spend more than china or russia in the defence, with proven advanced tech to compete with and lose a good chunk of power projectio at the same time, and all the „plan b“ production lines?

    Next discovery? water is hot?

  13. Buy from the US or I’ll tax people in the US who buy from you more! Ah ….. such winning

More threats. We literally just called his bluff and he folded and one day later he’s back to threatening us. Seriously

  15. Threats. It’s always threats Trump has no interest in negotiating in good faith, and he doesn’t understand the value of compromise. It’s time Europe, and the rest of the world, takes a stand and says „no“. If they don’t now, he’ll only persist with this childish behaviour.

Central banks of countries make economic and financial decisions everyday. If the US is no longer a viable long term investment, it’s assets are sold and more attractive or stable investments are acquired. It’s not personal, its how the financial markets work.

It fascinates me how short sighted and completely bought in, some of the American elite and public are into the idea of American Exceptionalism.

Like this idea that the reason the US is so prosperous was because of some innate specialness. When in truth it was relationships that benefited both parties.

Yes, the US built a massive military that “protected the world”. But, we need to talk about what they go in return: immense wealth. So, Europe invested and traded with the US, in some instances to their detriment. Why? Because the arrangement was “you keep things safe with the guns, and we’ll buy your shit”.

That was basically the deal. The US got rich from a relationship with the world that said that the US would provide security to make trade possible and the world would have preferential treatment towards the US when it came to trade.

The issue is this: if the US withdraws security. Then the wealth that flows in slowly dries up or goes elsewhere. Then you have a real problem. Because without a stable world, people aren’t buying American. They’re not watching Hollywood, or listening to American music. They’re not having Big Macs or subscribing to ChatGPT because the underlying stability no longer allows for luxury.

Like, Prime Minister Carney said: a world of fortresses makes us all poorer.

The thing Americans need to learn during this administration’s term is that… America needs globalization and integration with the global economy and if they pull away all their comfort and buying power disappears.

Because at the end of the day, whether we like it or not… the products that make our lives better and provide a high standard of living are globalized products. Things that are made everywhere. From Coffee, to Olive Oil, to GPUs to Drones.

You can’t get ahead and be isolationist. It’s a death sentence for your nation. You have to engage in trade in some way or form. Because the basic truth is our comfort and prosperity relies heavily on a global system. Even the Great Powers need the global economy.
