If people can use new surnames when people get married then they can use pronouns..it’s not that hard
But is this not the very thing that kicked off the Enoch Burke fiasco.
The whole pronouns row is just making mountains out of anthills. It takes no real effort to use an individuals preferred pronoun.People against it are often those who cry out about freedoms and their rights as individuals, but surely having the freedom and right to decide your pronouns should be a good thing then?

He, she, they. It’s easy. But I think they don’t want to write in a law that gives roam because someone’s gonna take the piss and start referring to themself as Xe, Xem, Xer and all that shite.
The problem with making such things mandatory in rules and guidelines is that it gives fuel to insufferable bolloxes to make an issue out of such things.
It should **not** be obligatory, in law or guidance, to respect a person’s preferred pronouns. It should, however, not be socially acceptable to be an objectionable bellend and misgender trans people because you have some weird contrarian objection to them, and anyone going out of their way to do it should be roundly mocked by everyone else.
If you can’t be a decent person yourself, then you can expect others be forced to put up with your nonsense.
One state funded organisation fighting with another. They should really go and sue each other in the High court next.
I can’t help but feel this and all the Enoch Burke stuff is just a distraction tactic by many of those in power. How many people actually care about this compared to the housing crisis, shite transport, failing healthcare, privatised&expensive social care and childcare?
Yet thousands of people are made homeless and waiting on trolleys and unable to get to work etc from bad transport – and increasingly the front page is about the 101st time Enoch Burke is sent back to prison.
Our media has a responsibility to provide a public service and it seems many are failing in this. It’s not helped by toxic algorithms on social media pushing all the anti-trans posts from yanks to millions of us for hours a day..

Like if a teacher addressed someone in the room it would be done using their name
I’ll never understand the hatred for trans people or using different pronouns for someone. Like who fucking cares. If it genuinely makes you mad, you’re a snowflake.
legally the department is correct , we all can agree its bad form ( see that teacher who stands out side the school) but legally theirs no obligation
This is the Irish Times making up a controversy for clicks because they know trans stuff drives online traffic.
There is in fact no contradiction between the ICCL claim and the DoE if you examine what was actually written.
The ICCL guide never claimed that there is an established legal requirement to use a student’s preferred pronouns. They referred to DoE guidelines and then pointed to the fact that there is a legal requirement not to discriminate against students.
The implication is that failing to use preferred pronouns could amount to discrimination – this is a natural reading of the existing laws, but it has never been tested in an Irish court.
This was then taken up by Leahy who decided to publish a story about the guide saying that there was a legal requirement, who then conveniently doesn’t bother asking the DoE until he can publish a second story a few days later in which they say that they never said there was a legal requirement so Leahy can then say that they’ve contradicted the guide.
This is useful.
People shouldn’t be compelled to say things that they don’t believe.
By all means people can identify as they wish but people shouldn’t be compelled to agree.
I’m strongly of the belief that pupils shouldn’t transition in schools also.
Adults can do what they wish.

Here’s the thing. Are there strict rules on the use of a transkid’s pronouns fur school staff? No.
But, schools now all have homophobic and transphobic abuse listed in their anti bullying policies, so a staff member calling a trans boy by a girl’s name he doesn’t use anymore would be massively hypocritical. How could you expect children and teens to show that kid respect when the adult in the room won’t?
Wow, this is a massive win for Enoch Burke.

Because why be kind when you can drive children to suicide.
Refusing to use someone’s correct pronouns is or should be considered discrimination based on gender identity/expression, which are covered grounds under the Equality act.
If the Department has a different view then this needs to be settled in a court of law.
So yet again, it will fall to somebody from a minority to step up and expose themselves to horrendous abuse to access a protected right in this country.
When it is reaffirmed in such a case, it will be celebrated by the department as if they were always in favour of it.
Welcome to American culture wars you dingdong please don’t fall for this. If you’re not aware, the Republicans lost abortion as a vote driver and took up hating gay and trans people. The trans issue took over the political narrative completely. It started with sports and bathrooms and then it went bananas when Republicans claimed that schools would have to have litter boxes for furries- which absolutely did not happen in even one school. But the people were so dumb and gullible they believed it. Next up, everyone went bananas over each other’s genitals while civil rights were eroded and division was so amongst the people and now nobody can even have Christmas or Thanksgiving without being in a personal fight with people they know in their family. So if you’re out for a destruction of society start attacking a very small vulnerable population, and make that the main narrative while the bad guys divide everyone. Can you just sit this one out and not copy the United States on all of their stupid moves. Please be smarter than this.
This is a diverse issue when we have much bigger problems in our country. There are less than 1% of our population who ask us to accommodate their personal choice so please let us not get distracted with hatred for Our fellow human beings.
