He could resign from something he was never suited or qualified to be and allow space for someone with actual competency to take his place.
Literally the only way he can meet the moment.
I mean all he had to do was stand behind trudeau and say his version of fuck trump during the early part of 2025 and he probably would have won
As long as Donald Trump is US president, Poilievre will never have a strong foreign policy. He refuses to call out Trump. It’s what cost him the election. And he still refuses to.
This is why Carney is the Prime Minister Canada needs for this moment. Yesterday’s Davos speech proved that, as it resonated with Canadians across party lines, and made international headlines. What did Poilievre do? Made multiple tweets on the carbon tax, which nobody cares about anymore. What a stark difference between the two.
The only thing he can do is be radio silent.
Any time he opens his mouth he will only remind Canadians how underqualified he is.
He could offer to join a coalition with the prime minister and form a government of national unity. That’s one idea.
He can’t, it astounds me his ego is so big he thinks he should be allowed within 10 feet of the big boy chair when he can’t even pass the most basic legislation
I think all Canadians, even PP’s supporters, are glad that it was Carney there giving that speech instead of Pierre.
The problem Poilievre faces is that he’s backed himself into such a corner that his only option is to continue on the path that he’s on, and hope that the economic situation gets so bad that he ends up in power by default. Pro-Trump types are so integral to his coalition that he cannot risk alienating them. But Canada as a whole is so anti-Trump, that he can’t outright support Trump either. He’s thus forced to not say anything at all about foreign policy, and instead deride it as irrelevant. But the continuous pro-Trump dog whistles that is required to string along the former PPC types continue making him toxic to such a large segment of Canadians that it’s difficult to see him winning.
Oh, he’ll meet the moment; with whining, conspiracy theories, and useless slogans.
I’d love to think it’ll be different this time, but it won’t be.
„Conservatives should not veer from their winning set of issues—affordability, housing, immigration“
Winning at taking complex issues and spouting nonsensical simplistic solutions about them.
Last time I checked, the Conservatives were not really keen in having more governmental involvement in everything related to the economy…while these three issues are essentially stemming from a hands-off free trade à la „Adam Smith“ on economic development.
