The US already has ‚mineral rights‘ for Greenland, as in they are free to invest in mineral extraction. This has been in place since forever. But of course he is going to frame this as a win.

  2. PixelationIX on

It is funny seeing how U.S is hijacking resources from countries through bullying, threats etc. And then fearmongers about China, whereas in reality, China is making deals.

  3. VeniVidiViciAgain on

And mineral rights for himself, his family and his donors is what it’s all about.

  4. ApplicationMaximum84 on

So basically nothing really changed as the US and Greenland effectively had an understanding on this matter way back in 2019-2020.

  5. Slow_Junket5136 on

They should make a deal with him including only stuff they already have in Groenland. Pretty sure Trump wouldn’t even know he got dupped.

  6. So we’ve got to the ‚triumphant parade with chestfuls of seashells‘ stage already.

Sounds like a concept of a plan we will be eagerly waiting to hear about in two weeks.

  8. BirthrightOwner49 on

    And there it is…always a racket with him…raised eyebrows…glare…

  9. Nick_Strong on

From the early 1950s onward, the US could do whatever it wanted with Greenland, as long as it was within legal limits. But Trump will act as if he bullied Europe into submission and extracted more concessions than anyone before, and his followers will eat it all up.

  10. SinglecoilsFTW on

lol this already existed but the minerals aren’t economically viable for extraction

  11. Miserable_Pie_8337 on

I thought this was about US security… now I’m confused. 🤔 Could it be Trump was full of shit as usual…

  12. NATO can’t negotiate on behalf of Greenland any more than Denmark can. And America has deals for military bases and minerals etc. with Greenland already.

When will americans cart their senile grandad to a care facility? He shouldn’t be allowed outside on his own anymore.

  13. Rehash an existing deal, make a huge deal out of how great a deal it was, put his name all over it, then when it backfires blame it on Democrats. Rinse, repeat. (i.e. What he did with NAFTA or that shitty oil production deal he made with the Saudis and Russia, or his negotiations with the Taliban…)

  14. The. WORST. President. EVER.

He will 1000% take this as a win even though nothing has changed… Such a clown

  15. Isn’t Greenland specifically not mining because of environmental and indigenous concerns?

  16. HaggisHunter93 on

Of course, sure. Who would’ve guessed? At least he didn’t kidnap the boss of NATO, that’s a positive.

  17. HammyMugats on

He pooped the bed and asked us to all marvel at the fact that he got new bedsheets.

  18. I hope we find out later that they had a secret meeting and told Trump we are all prepared to dump 100% of your debt today unless you make a statement. You get nothing new but you can spin it to your dumbass base as a win and you get to call Jarred to make $ of the stock rebound.

  19. but was it not about national security? oh no… it’s about resources, who would have thought….

hey, trumpyboy, did you know that russia has many resources you could use/plunder? how about it?

  20. He made a deal with NATO, which i can’t imagine has any say about specific rights on a member territory. Like it can’t unilaterally give the rights to France for resources in Texas.

  21. Mineral rights, there it is, that’s what this has all been about. And not „for the USA“ but for his rich friends.

  22. coachhunter2 on

But he said this afternoon that he wasn’t interested in Greenland’s minerals. That wasn’t a lie, surely?

  23. Time-Industry-1364 on

This is ridiculous. Trump is just plundering any nation on earth that has [something] valuable, and then threatens to send in the military when they rightly tell him to fuck off.

  24. hamsterballzz on

Appease the billionaire investors who want the mineral rights to fuel AI, to replace the workers. That’s all it’s ever about with the US – money.

  25. radioactive-tomato on

Trump made a new deal. It’s identical to the old one, but this one is new. Art of the deal.

  26. The mineral rights and base access already granted under preexisting treaties?

  27. Task_Defiant on

The Secretary of NATO can’t negotiate on mineral rights of a member country. But the US already has access to both build defense installations and mineral minerals from Greenland if they want.

So did they just sit President Trump down with a NATO official to „negotiate“ for promises that the US already has just placate him as if he were a screaming toddler?

  28. pixelpionerd on

More Art of the Deal where you ask for something 1000x more than you are willing to settle for. Then you settle for it and call it a win. What a dip shit.

  29. I love the logic here. Fine we won’t take over your country but you give us everything a value in your country anyways.

  30. Not for the US – him and his buddies in crime are not the „US“.

Just like he’s holding on to Venezuela oil money outside of the US to give to whomever he pleases. Including himself.

  31. CivilizedPsycho on

So to be clear, it’s not about defense, it’s about resources.

Just like with Venezuela, it wasn’t about drugs, it was about oil.
