      It’s explicitly a punishment for their refusal to enact proper zoning reform. This was a known condition of the funding from the start

      It’s hardly much of a cut:

      >Robertson said the cut comes after Toronto city council failed to allow sixplexes citywide without needing special approval. Toronto will still receive $461 million from the fund over four years.

      IMHO, they shouldn’t receive a dime in federal dollars until they allow sixplexes citywide without special approval.

      You’ve just indicated to every other municipality with an agreement that *significant* deviations from the agreement amount to little more than a ~2% cut.

      Yeah, I bet. He has defended the interests of the anti-density NIMBYs and all it cost was a what amounts to a margin of error in spending. He should be proud of himself! He clearly got the best of the feds.

      He should have to defend why they didn’t cut significantly more, if not all of it. They made an agreement to receive a large amount of funding in exchange for making reforms to zoning among other things. They broke a very significant part of that agreement and they only lost a tiny fraction. Calgary is probably watching this thinking they can repeal the reforms they signed on to for funding, and they will face no consequences.

      I know the mayor in him is sympathetic to cash strapped cities who can’t pay for major capital upgrades without begging higher levels of government, but he has to realize the consequences of this weak response.

      At least they can save this money to pay for the useless gun grab, and the Liberal historical circle of spending to accomplish nothing will be complete.

      Actions (or in this case the lack thereof on the part of Toronto council) have consequences. Welcome to the „find out“ phase, lol.
