      How insulting! Danes sent soldiers only 20 years ago to defend the US when they invoked Article 5. They had the highest per capita deaths from the coalition.

      The only country to ever invoke article 5 was the US. It’s the US that has never proven they would be there for us – we have already proven it to them.

      It’s just a stupid statement. The one time article 5 was triggered in the wake of 9/11, NATO allies joined the US in the hunt for the fabled WMDs and to bring everlasting peace & stability to the Middle-East. DENMARK’s sons died for this.

      There’s not a single credible basis to assume that NATO allies would not aid the US when article 5 is triggered.

      The US is the only country in the alliance to ever invoke article 5, for dubious reasons, and we were there for them when they did. Our soldiers died in the Middle East so the US could fight their precious war against communism and strip the region for parts.

      Teflon Mark realizes that the US is something quite different from the president. He wants to do business with the US and needs to convince the puppet-like leader. Perhaps he will use some lubricant… which is necessary under the circumstances.

      Honestly, Rutte is doing an excellent job here. **The Dutchman isn’t in the situation to get rid of Trump,** people of the United States have to do such.

      Rutte must ensure that the US remains within NATO. He has never been afraid to contradict Trump, and he does so in a civilized, diplomatic, manner. Like he’s done so before, as Prime Minister of the Netherlands, even on International television.

      We all here are emotional… Rutte is not allowed to show any emotions, it’s one big global chess game, he knows that better than anyone else, which makes him the best man for the job.

      If the US were to attack a NATO member, would the US then be obligated to attack itself in defense of NATO members according to Article 5?

      The majority of the members of NATO founded NATO for precisely this purpose. We literally said „Let’s make an organisation that would do this“. And wrote the rules. The US was only one of those. The UK was in that agreement with the US from the very beginning, for instance, long before NATO was a thing.

      And we literally HAVE come to the US’s aid when it’s asked. The US, however, regularly vetoes everything it possibly can to do with the UN and NATO.

      Just to highlight how ridiculous Trump’s idea is ask any supporter of his (or even better journalists should ask Trump) what happens AFTER they take Greenland. Let’s say they take Greenland (and let’s ignore allied action for now). Ok, you got Greenland. Now what? Are you gonna make all the Greenlanders Americans against their will? Let’s also ignore that 99% of US Congress is against this. What about maintainance and upkeep? Right now, Greenlanders from what I understand live off fishing and Danish subsidies. Will the US take that on? What about healthcare and social security? Will Greenlanders now switch from Danish Social Insurance to the private American health market?

      The conservatives in Trump’s cabinet don’t even want to take care of their own people, they now will pay for Greenland’s needs?

      In other words, I bet you, he has not thought ANY of this through. I wish a journalist would ask him that. Sure, conquering lands may feel empowering because you want to slap your name on it, but what about after?

      If nato doesn’t defend its members, it has no purpose. Literally the only deterrent is the belief that picking a fight with one is picking a fight with all. It is the entire purpose of the existence of nato
