IMO, our Prime Minister *cannot* accept an invitation to sit on a body with Russia as an arbitrator until they are no longer waging a war of aggression against Ukraine and there has been an agreement to normalize relations. Nor should Carney agree to associate with Putin as long as he has an ICC arrest warrant for war crimes hanging over his head.
It was clear this would end in a mess even before the Putin invitation, but now it is a necessity to escape. The problem is how to get out of this diplomatically and without angering Trump. Macron refused a position here, and Trump announced extra tariffs over it. What a ridiculous world we live in.
It was reported before that Carney accepted a role on the Board of Peace but now hes just mulling it over. Kind of sounds like he took a step back from it?
It’s looking more and more like a damned if you do, damned if you don’t, situation. Though not doing it at least keeps our dignity.
