it doesn’t. the taxes for dining in at restaurants has been lowered to 7% so they have lowered their prices to undercut their competitors
Taxes were lowered with the start of this year. Restaurant food is now 7% VAT instead of 19%
They are just using that to advertise, telling you that you now have to pay less for a Happy Meal.
They claim (don’t know if correctly) to have passed the lowering of VAT for restaurants to the customer.
The tax already got lowered and they forward this to the customer…means kids menu is cheaper now than last year.
The tax rate for restaurants is lowered. This advertisement just tells you it is also lowering their prices.
Germany permanently reduced the VAT (value-added tax) on restaurant food from 19% to 7% starting January 1, 2026. This tax cut applies to all food served in restaurants, whether dine-in, takeaway, or delivery, but beverages still remain at 19% VAT. So it is not that McD wants the tax lowered (to be discussed^^) but advertising that the food is cheaper now because of the tax change
You misunderstood the message. The state taxes for restaurant services were lowered at the start of this year. McDonald’s is advertising to you, that they give back the difference in reduced tax to you as a customer.
I’m not going into the entire debate how this entire tax reform was lobby-controlled by McDonald’s and other giants to begin with. But if you are interested you could look that up, too.
If this is recent then it’s likely referring to the lowering of VAT for Gastronomy. McDonalds is advertising that they are passing the savings on to the customers – if they’re actually doing that I cannot say, most restaurants are not however.
It doesn’t. VAT for food consumed in hospitality was lowered to the same 7% as for takeaway food, something which should be common sense but wasn’t, it was 19 % before.
McDonald’s is using this as a hook for a campaign advertising lowered prices.
McDonalds payed for the CDU party conference last years and they got a donation over 500.000€ by Max Schlereth. This VAT reduction from 19% to 7% is the result of ~~ corruption ~~ lobbying.
Taxes for take away have always been 7%. Only 19% when you eat at the Restaurant. Price was the same anyway. Now they use it for Marketing.
Can someone explain me how the heck is McDonalds still in business in Germany? They are way too expensive for what they offer.
**I hate this so much.**
I am (still) part owner of a restaurant and a take away shop that sells the bowls we have at the restaurant. The takeaway shop was already at 7% as takeaway never was 19% to begin with. All of us basically had to deal with rising cost for the last year. If your groceries go up, so does Metro, the Großmarkthalle and everyone else. Usually you increase prices at beginning of the year to make up for the inflation of last year. People forget over the holidays how much they used to pay and so you can do it without much backlash.
**And now this 7%, is sold by the giant corporations as „everything should be 12% cheaper“. Guys, these 12% are eaten up by the increased costs from last year.**
Plus anything that is takeaway has not been affected at all. And now everyone is mad because prices didn’t go down. We didn’t raise the prices, because the tax break made up for the inflation we were going to add at the beginning of this year. Basically the state is refunding us for eating the costs last year.
**But McD and co can afford to lower ALL prices short term and make everyone else look bad, despite knowing full well that there is no way anyone can go any lower anymore.**
Never trust an advertisement that slaps a * on it and hides the details in font size 4
The elite will definitely pass the gains on to the consumers, they are well known for that.
