I saw this last night and thought that’s an assault.

Nothing more nothing less an assault.

    >A spectator who posted video of the incident online said the player in question “should get banned for life.”

Do they post on /r/soccer ? That sub loves calling for lifetime bans.

Because this is a non-professional game it’ll be a 3 month ban from football, plus whatever the courts give him (so a fine and a suspended sentence, most likely). If it was professional the police wouldnt even look at it and it would be 3-5 matches.

Unfortunately this happens a lot in Sunday county league games. Some are absolute animals

100% support the arrest but I don’t really understand the law here.

There are many actions that happen in amateur and professional sports pitches that would get you locked up if you did it to a stranger on the street.

I’m not talking tackles but pushing, getting in peoples face with threats etc. is there a special law or carve out for sport?

Good. Most of time it’s just seen as part of the game and a yellow or red card is sufficient. But in reality it’s actually GBH. In any other walk of life, he would be arrested and charged.

Taken a few of these on the muddy recs on a Sunday morning from some hung-over psychopath back in the early 2000s. Just goes to show you are on camera all the time, these days . He’s “bang to rights”
