I wonder how much the chosen map projection is distorting the geography shown, especially when we come to the northern parts of the map.

    2. Hope people saw that Denmark sold the Virgin Islands to the US, with the promise that they wouldn’t threaten Greenland.

Looks like St. Thomas could become Danish again.

    3. The US did not buy northern Mexico but rather they conquer it in war. Then they saw that they also needed a little bit more because of railroad reasons and bought it under the threat of another war.

    4. The 2026 prices are surprisingly low, especially since I’ve seen estimates that purchasing Greenland would cost *700 billion*

      The U.S. has purchased*

For American English, anyway, where notional subject/verb agreement is not practiced.

    6. Attention Denmark: Please note, we have done business before. Also, how about one for one swap with Greenland? /s

Also, Price 2026 I realize is simple inflation, but that’s not anywhere close to what is worth.

So, the Gadsden Purchase was the most expensive area that became a state based on price to area, though the US Virdin Islands were by far more expensive(which we bought from Denmark).

I hate the fake news media. NBC claimed last week that the US has never bought land. That is an obvious lie.

    9. Fun fact: Virgin Island they „bought“ from the Danish crown because they were affraid the Germans would seize it (btw. utter bs).
Best thing is, they gave the Danish people in writing that in turn they wouldn‘t touch Greenland.

    10. Virgin Islands cost half a billion. Which has no natural resources and is not „of strategic value“.
      Greenland is 7000x bigger.
At least Denmark should get their 4.6 trillion dollars for it. No?

    11. There’s also a specific clause in the 1917 treaty, added by the U.S. Secretary of State, and signed off on by Woodrow Wilson, saying that that part of the exchange included guarantees that the United States would never interfere with Greenland and/or the Danish Kingdom.

Not only were the Virgin islands purchased from Denmark, but within that purchase was the agreement that the US recognize the sovereign right of Denmark’s ownership of Greenland.

    13. This is US propaganda! If I throw 5 bucks at the guy I just mugged it doesn’t mean I bought his watch!

    14. Fun fact: I told someone this to make someone bragging about Missouri shut up. If you scaled up the price of the Louisiana purchase ( and considering that the us delegation was only supposed to buy new Orleans for 10 million) you can get the math to say the Missouri in today’s money is only worth 18 million.

    15. In 2026 Dodgers contracts (not inflation adjusted) these equal:

      Tanner Scott = Louisiana Purchase

Will Smith = California, Arizona, Utah, Nevada

      Miguel Rojas= Florida

      Freddie Freeman = Virgin Islands

      Blake Treinen = two Alaskas
