      I say this as an American married to an azerbaijani lol but it kind of depends on what the purpose of this is. Technically azerbaijanis fall under the caucasian (white) category for census purposes so if the outcome of whatever you select makes no difference for you (i.e. it’s just for a survey or study) then I’d pick white. BUT I also work in education and for example if you are applying to university or some sort of scholarship, I’d pick middle eastern, because then you’d be categorized more as a minority and you could stand to benefit from a level of affirmative action, depending on the context and the institution. Don’t shoot the messenger btw I am not trying to offend anyone or make a statement on whether I think these policies are good or bad, ultimately these questions are up to self-identification and I don’t think it really matters at the end of the day, but if you could stand to benefit from identifying as middle eastern I’d say go for it.

      I do white, middle east and east asia, which is afaik a faithful mixture

      It is optional.If its for like an SAT exam or smth just dont answer.

      There is no right answer here. Choose the one that will work for you. For diversity they might pick someone non white. And vice versa. Also, in the US we aren’t considered white. Even our names sound non white.

      Due to US terminology, specifically CIA Factbook, azerbaijanis are Middle Eastern. This differs from European perspective where azeris are not considered as Middle Eastern.

      As an Azerbaijani i don’t really count us as asians, so I’d choose other, since we’re like half Asian, half European… We are Caucasians, and our language belongs to the Turkic group. So yeah, other is best option

      You don’t have to answer it anyway, I’d say most Azerbaijanis fall into the white cateogory but this whole race thing in the US is largely socially constructed.

      Why isn’t „West Asian“ an option? Just go „Other“ I guess. I’m not 100% sure what race Azeris are seen as outside Azerbaijan, but none of these seem accurate.

      Other, “god chosen peoples” “chosen ally” or “Azerbaijan is one city in Israel”
      I like them both.
