I’ve always felt like I’m missing something with this story.

Of course China is spying on us. They’re already doing it from their existing embassy and other less official places. Stopping them building a new embassy is not going to stop the spying on us.

I went to a university with a lot of Chinese students and there was a local team that appeared to be from the Chinese government that supported them. Many of them had scholarships from the Chinese military to study things like aerospace engineering and computer science. Wouldn’t be surprised if many of them were gathering intelligence.
