Mass non-compliance is the only solution.
The Government only have enough money to pay for a fraction of the firearms that were banned.

With that short of a window, it’s very likely that systems will get strained to breaking point and if there’s no compensation possible, I suspect many NR firearms owners will just not comply. They are relying on FOMO to drive participation and I genuinely don’t think it’s going to work the way they want it to.
So they only have money to pay for less firearms than what they prohibited.
This is the same program that the federal Public Safety Minister that was caught on hot mike stating that the program was a waste of time and money, and they were only pushing forward because it bought them votes in Quebec.
I really don’t see how this brings any benefit to Canadian society.
* The program is targeted exclusively at properly licensed Canadians, and at firearms that are not any measurably different from firearms still on the market.
* Criminals largely use handguns smuggled across our southern border. The firearms banned are not typically used in criminal activities.
* Suicide and theft are unaffected, as these bans are unlikely to affect an individuals entire collection, and they will still be licensed afterwards and can buy more firearms anyways.
* The cost will be exorbitant, currently it’s been at least 750 million dollars, and will easily blow into the billions by the time it’s complete. For reference, the Long Gun Registry was supposed to cost 2 million, but the final price tag before it was shut down was 2 **billion**, and that’s just a simple registry.
* Those that participate are not going to get a fair compensation, if they get compensation at all. One participant got roughly 1/4 of what was promised online, with no means of recourse. As well, the amount of money for compensation is limited, and once it runs out, nobody gets any compensation.
I really don’t understand how anyone can support this. With multiple provinces and territories actively opposing it, the chances of success (as in all or most firearms are collected) are slim to none.

They banned somewhere close to a million guns, and are trying to get away with only paying for 1/10th of them. This program is expropriation, not paying compensation for expropriated property is illegal.

So their goals are now even less guns nationally and they have admitted they don’t plan to compensate everyone.
The LPC is clearly trying to get people to participate they can get numbers and declare this a success. There is far, far more than 136k prohibited fire arms in Canada. They just want to make this program go away.
Here’s the good news, they gave a ridiculous short window for participating, 6 weeks got 12% in Cape Breton, maybe they will get 13% nation wide lol.
Non compliance is a valid and legal form of protest, they are clearly desperate for anything they can take as a win and gas light the public about. Don’t take the bait and participate.

They are seizing formerly lawful property that was obtained by jumping through the very same governments laws set in place to obtain them. They were vetted for criminal records and were deemed safe to own them.
Want compensation?

They will be making former law abiding citizens criminals with the stroke of a pen.
In 2020 the estimated restricted firearms for buyback was ~100k. And a large amount of non-restricted firearms.
The 2024/25 ones are mostly NR as well (except M1 Carbines and very few short-barreled PCCs).
The allocated budget is for ~130k firearms, which means it is NO WHERE NEAR the amount required to compensate everyone. It might be enough for the 2020 list, but the 2024/25 lists were far, far more expansive due to their NR nature. Industry estimates places it at anywhere from 300k to 2 million.
This is not how a buyback program works. They kept talking about how good the Australian buyback worked – that’s because they had near unlimited funding and paid over market price for every and each firearm. This is NOT the case for Canada.
And Public Safety knows that. That’s why they are using FOMO tactics while explicitly stating that compensation is not guaranteed.
What a fucking joke. They’re taking property without fully intending to pay for everything they take. This isn’t a buyback program, it’s confiscation, pure and simple, all to appease uninformed voters who have no idea on the firearms laws and enforcement that were already in place.
60 days to register whatever banned guns I might or might not own, so they can be seized later. Or 287 days to keep my mouth shut, and hope this whole idiotic farce goes away.

Don’t fall for it. They are trying to make people panic and run to hand stuff in hoping to be one of the lucky few. It’s ridiculous and so disrespectful to treat innocent people this way. Make them play a game in hopes of getting compensated for their own property.
Here’s the thing. No one needs to comply until October, its a valid and legal protest, and they will extend the amnesty again, they are trying to talk tough and make people panic, but that amnesty isn’t going anywhere, its been renewed ober and over already, and they had to do the same thing with the LGR.
And they have dug themselves into hole now that if this does reach the Supreme Court of Canada, the feds can’t stick to the original plan and the higher Court might have a different opinion under different circumstances now.
Lastly, their will be an election if Carney can’t secure a majority through floor crossing, most likely in the next year. No minority has ever survived a full term and they average 18 months. Even having an election brings the possibility of disrupting this program.
Clever trick.
Only offer a quarter of the compensation in the hopes of making gun owners rush to try and get compensation first „within 45 days“. After the money runs out the government has everyones name, address, and all the firearms they registered. Talk about incriminating yourself.

It’s not actually a buy back though. Many gun owners would take a huge hit financially as they are not being reimbursed dollar for dollar. Instead they have to give up a hunting rifle worth thousands and then go buy one now considered approved with money out of their own pocket.

This program isn’t designed to stop gun crime or protect people, it is designed solely to appease Nathalie Provost and her lobbyist group PolySeSouvient. It is disgusting that her personal vendetta against law abiding firearm owners, who have committed no crimes, is responsible for this egregious waste of money. This money could be used to stop smuggling, which is the real root of the firearm problem in Canada, but Provost won’t admit that since she believes only legal firearms and their owners kill people.
