    1. Remember when they said private businesses requesting proof of covid vaccination before entry was fascist??

    2. I don’t have anything that proves I’m a U.S citizen.

Is there anything other than a passport that does that?

    3. What the fuck happen to probable cause? and why can’t any MAGA supporters answer this question?

How the heck do random people on the street proove they are citizens? Obviously a DL wouldn’t be sufficient proof. I’m a born American and I would probably get detained based on their standards, but since I’m white European descent I probably won’t get profiled.

    5. That’s not how civil rights work, and it sure as hell isn’t how the Constitution works. You are not required to carry papers to exist in public, and the fact that this is happening at all should scare everyone, not just immigrants.

If the government can demand proof of citizenship without cause today, they can demand something else tomorrow. Rights don’t disappear all at once, they get chipped away while people say “well, it doesn’t affect me.” History is very clear on how this kind of thing escalates, and it never ends with more freedom.

People should know their rights, document these encounters, and be loud about how unacceptable this is. Law enforcement is not above the law, and they do not get unlimited power just because the word “immigration” makes people nervous. This is not about safety. It’s about control, fear, and seeing how much the public will tolerate before pushing back.

Turns out the „don’t tread on me“ crowd doesn’t give a shit if you tread.on anyone else.

The Second Amendment defenders have used the potential of this exact situation occurring to support their position.

„Officer, I know my rights I don’t have to give you my documentation – how about I plead the second and show you my glockumentation.“

Funny enough – that’s about as „Yep, I’m an American“ as you can get.

    9. I had to bring my birth certificate to the DMV one time and i felt like I was transporting a heart for a transplant. Scary

I’m happy to waste their time finding out of I’m a citizen if it means they have less time to harass hard-working immigrants. I ain’t showing them shit. „Am I being detained/am I free to go“ on a loop until they detain me or leave.

Hey Kavanaugh, this is your legacy now. You’ll be mentioned in the same breath as Roger Taney for decades to come.

I live in Minneapolis. Never thought I’d carry around a passport to walk my dog or take groceries from the store to the car. It cannot be understated that what’s going on here is beyond scary, and I’m not even someone ICE would outright target.

The Minneapolis community has loved and embraced immigrant populations since I can remember. The immigrant community has contributed to our diverse food and culture, and it’s what I love most about living here. Seeing this destroyed, and our sense of safety obliterated, in less than a week is horrible. But I find solace in the wonderful, progressive community members who do not give ICE officers any peace – Their hotels are protested at every night, they are followed and filmed everywhere they go, and there are people putting their lives literally on the line to protect those they are targeting. Minneapolis may be cold as hell, but the people are warm.

Keep sending love and support from afar, we’ll need it.

Meanwhile, people should be demanding proof that they are real immigration officers.

It’s crazy how much things have escalated with them in Minneapolis vs past cities like Chicago.

I should start giving away vanity ID’s with the name “Little Bitch” and a mirror where the face would be. Under organ donor it would read “to your mom”

    16. westergames81 on

Also important: they are trying to say ID’s are not good enough to prove citizenship.

I personally don’t carry my passport on me, I have no idea what they think is good enough to prove citizenship other than *“be white“*.

    17. Demand proof they’re Americans and ICE agents.

Open carry of a handgun is legal. So doing that is a good idea probably. And not walking alone.

    18. Ask them back. They just as equally have no proof. The chance an ICE agent actually owns a passport would surprise me.

    19. That whole crowd worried about covid vaccine documents seems weirdly quiet suddenly

Demanding IDs while wearing masks and refusing to identify themselves.

      Fucking ridiculous.

we could put a symbol of some sort on our clothing, maybe a sleeve for example, that would indicate our nationalities

I’ll prove mine, if you prove yours, and if you can prove you weren’t at Jan 6th.

I wonder what happens with tourists? Because the answer to are you a citizen is of course going to be “no” in that case.

    26. It’s incredible that after a decade of screaming that Merica was filled to bursting with illegal immigrants, now that they finally have given themselves the power to do whatever they want to find them, suddenly they can find so few that they have to employ tens of thousands of thugs to just ask people at random.

So as a Canadian I’m wondering where are all the second amendment proponents while this is happening. Isn’t this the sort of thing the second amendment was enacted for ?

    28. Oceanbreeze871 on

How does an American citizen who was born in the US prove their citizenship? We don’t get “papers”.

ICE has already established REAL id and passports don’t count and they toss them
      Aside
