Sounds fun where do I sign up to help?
Lmao sure Jan , highly highly doubt this will happen
Sure bud, first establish a feasible transit
Probably will happen, maybe even before 2035! But no chance we are getting this by 2030.
Hi NASA
What rates will you be paying for Tig Welders on this project?
Tightttt. Is this mostly just for testing? Seems like an impossible task, but would incredible to see it
no no, what we meant was, we will have concepts of a plan to build a nuclear reactor on the moon
So do I. We have approximately the same chance of it happening.
Late to the party; I committed to this in 1991. Mine’s gonna be operated by the Ninja Turtles.
Been hearing this for years. Maybe this time and it will happen according to schedule but I’m not sure what the benefit is on putting a timeframe forward that is not that far off. First putting a man back on the moon after half a century would be great.
Lost me at „nasa commits“.Â
Ya fucking right.
How in the world could they even imagine doing this in 4 years…
Thats like saying a highschooler will cure cancer before he graduates..
At this point, you can tell something will never happen if it’s committed to by 2030, 2035, or 2050.
Zzzzzz world issues vs fantasy
They can’t even build a nuclear reactor in NJ by 2030, let alone the Moon.
Space 1999 show coming to reality
I read a book years ago about the coldest days of the Cold War. Edmund Teller, the father of the hydrogen bomb, came to have immense power over which strategic projects got funding and which ones did not. The author of the book —and I apologize, I don’t remember which book. I read it possibly as much as twenty years ago— was involved in pitching a number of projects, all of which Teller asked, „Can this be made operational in the next five years?“ and when he was told no, he vetoed the project on the reasoning, „Nuclear war is inevitable within the next five years.“ He apparently used this same line of reasoning throughout the 1950s and 1960s without acknowledging he may be wrong. The author of the book was very salty about it.
Anyway, I say this because I honestly think all NASA projects now have to be visible through the lens of, „Does President Trump get the credit for this?“ If this reactor was scheduled for 2035 or 2040, the Trump-appointed head of NASA is not going to run this up the flagpole for approval. This needs to happen soon enough that Trump gets to make speeches about it, and ideally still be in office when the results come in.
So, do we really think this is going to happen by 2030, or is that what they had to say to get enough funding to keep the planning team alive, knowing it’s going to take longer than that?
Healthcare would also be super duper cool.
„Not because it’s easy, but because by then other problems will make people completely forget about this“
– The President
Elon said he’s getting us to Mars by 2026. 🤞
Sure Jan they couldn’t build one on Earth by 2030 let alone the moon
We have to get there first and since any space is a political item, current affairs may make this not even a thing.
Better build two, just in case…
Dude, it’s 2026. No believes we will have nuclear power on the moon in the next three years.
I will literally boil and eat my hat if we manage this.Â
Sure bud, maybe in a few hundred years . . .
This is nowhere near as monumental as people seem to think it is, at least not without clarification on reactor capacity.
We could place a nuclear reactor on the moon anytime we want to. The media send to be enamored with the headline in concept without considering that’s not the interesting part
No no no, it means it’s going to take until 2030 to commit to a plan.
