It’s a small number so probably not. But US automakers are basically partly Canadian automakers at this point so it could potentially hurt Canadian jobs unless Chinese companies start building plants in Canada.
One big reason the US is OK with Japanese and Korean and European companies selling cars in the US is that they manufacture some of them here.

At some point this will become a bigger issue when americans are tired that their brand of cars sell at 85k on average, and the average car payment being close to a 2nd mortgage for 7 years.
The „buy american“ is only so far as Americans still want giant fucking vehicles, which the rest of the world does not. When there becomes a gas price spike plus more awareness of the average cost of these Chinese cars, Americans will eventually come around and it will decimate in one swoop our car industry. Maybe it’ll start actually with the Kias and the hyundai’s since more people seem to buy sedans from these guys.
Honestly I dont understand how one of the big automakers just hasn’t bought one of these companies to legally sell the cars in America. Greed ? Idiocy? It makes so much sense to me to just rebadge them as the new Ford Focus or whatever. This also solves the problem of repairing these types of cars.
