Curious if anyone knows details about who can sign this petition. Is it only Alberta residents who can sign? Is Canadian citizenship required to sign the petition? Is it open to everyone?
Pathetic bunch. Do they think this is easier than trying to get American citizenship? Happily opening the doors to the US to interfere in any future referendum and/or use the results (one way or another) to take over.
Can’t they see it’s their premier that’s cutting all their services and privatizing them? Don’t treat politics like a sports team and keep voting for the same party that screws you over just because you want to be a team player.
Alberta separating would mean that conservatives in the province could no longer blame Ottawa for the failures of their own government.
All this work to get a referendum and get 15% of Albertans on side, and 85% to hate you with all of their being. Me and everyone I know here being the latter.
And after the referendum – any of these signers understand how the constitutional amendment formula works?
Think that at least 50% of people in at least 7 out of 10 provinces will agree to Alberta leaving Canada?

„Stay Free Alberta“…
Free from what exactly? And not „free“ for long as if they would ever separate from Canada, how long do you think before they.become part of the US regardless if they want to or not?
Some people complain that „Canada“ is not listening to them, but they sure as h*ll don’t listen to the 80% of Albertans who do not want this separatism BS.
Not surprising – anyone who’s driven the QEII from Edmonton to Calgary knows the political priorities of central Alberta based on the farmland billboards: pro-life, anti-vaxx, Trudeau blackface (*still*), and flat earth.
lol these people think their aren’t successful cos of how oppressive the Feds are? The free market with shit on then when they go to a world where blue collar labor is a free for all
We all know what type of people these separatists are. Ill informed at best. At worst…well, it doesn’t need to be spelled out.
This idea would make sense if Albertas wealth was driven by anything more than their continuing fire sale on fossil fuels. Contrast with Norway actually generating wealth for people in their jurisdiction that don’t work for oil companies.
We should let them separate. Then we can invade, occupy and nationalize the oil and gas industry like it should have been all along.
Plus, we’ll be able to get rid of all the mouth breathers like Sara Moberg who think that forming a new state without any actual plan or an ounce of foresight is something good that they want their kids to see them stand up for. Silly, silly people.
So someone explain to me what happens if they get the signatures they need. Is that it? Alberta’s no longer a province? What happened to the other petition a while ago that was signed to stay apart of Canada?
Everyone refuses to blame the UCP ruling conservative government for the failures. They are still blaming the NDP for the failures after almost a decade. The only people I see supporting this are not big thinkers, hell they do not even think for themselves.
Talking to this group of people is like trying to get my Black Lab to focus on anything but dinner around 5pm. They are focused on only one thing and nothing you say will change things.
If only we had some way of collecting a list of the most unhinged, maple-MAGAS in the province. How would we ever compile something like that?
So why is it, that everyone is up in arms about Alberta wanting to separate, yet, there’s an entire political party in Quebec that is built on the premise of separation.
If it works for Quebec to get concessions from Canada, why shouldn’t Alberta use the threats???
