anyone with a brain cell knows the context is the “new world order” where the US dismantles international institutions and relations that gave it its own dominance.

People really want to make Canada expand trade with the second-largest economy in the world, as if that were a horrible thing.

Carney is just trying to navigate it.

The new world order is a reality. The US is no longer the leader of the free world, and the American people voted for that outcome. Whether we like it or not, there is a new world order erupting.

It’s just reality that the US has fundamentally changed how the world works.

Americans voted for a new world order, and the USA has the power to accomplish that. Other countries need to wake up and act accordingly, in line with their own interests. Carney is doing what he needs to do.

Doing his best to ensure Canada gets invaded for real. United States will not tolerate a Chinese vassal state directly to the north of them.

We stay “friends” with the US to simply keep our peace and way of life while we work with China to really advance our country technologically and economically while being militarily aligned with US, and if US and China ever go to war, we’ll just say we’ll sit this one out. Good luck though sorry for the backstabbing, eh?

Now we are standing there ignoring it, going to their country talking about new world orders.

This new world order is already here and the west has been extremely reluctant to acknowledge it. That is, the he world that was predicted 35 years ago. China is wealthy and we are not. By ‚we‘ I mean the entire western sphere. Their debt per capita is about 2% of ours. They can spend billions at the drop of a hat to develop their infrastructure where we have painted ourselves into a fiscal corner. We need larger countries to help us fund the extraction of our own wealth. As much as we may not like their values, but we gotta‘ start playing ball at some point. That’s not a perspective to which the blue collar conservative Sun will be sympathetic.

Canada is doing what it has to do. Trump literally said yesterday they don’t need Canada for a thing. Trump dismantled the previous world order.

No choice. Even though China is nobody’s favourite, the lesson to learn here is that diversification is the key, and this is one step closer to achieving that.

Kneejerk reactions are seldom correct. Exchanging marriage vows with China in response to a short term hissy fit from the USA is insane and unwise. Only China will win long term.

Wonder if Canada might be up for its once in a century super power pivot. About a century ago we pivoted away from our significantly stronger attachment to the British and towards the Americans as the Americans usurped the British as the global hegemon, perhaps a similar thing may eventually happen here (especially if the Americans continue on their current trajectory).

It would be so nice if one of the two superpowers knocked off the imperialist shit.
China could become the new 20th century US so easily if they stopped threatening Taiwan and supporting Russia and Iran. I would love to be able to trust China and move towards China partnership, but they are the same as the US, just more predictable.

He is making deals with the world’s second largest economy when the largest has been actively crapping on our heads and telling us we aren’t needed, or threatening to take us over.
