Losing 84 artillery systems and 8 MLRS in one day is epic. There had to be some sort of intelligence or technological breakthrough. Even if half of those gun kills are light mortars that would still be the equivalent of knocking out two artillery battalions in one day. I suspect most of those losses are either the heavy mortars, which are roughly equal to regular guns, or full sized artillery pieces, because the no man’s land is usually to broad to make smaller artillery pieces particularly useful.
And then there are the eight MLRS systems. Those are huge, particularly if they are the more modern systems.
