Furthermore, Tony Dokoupil was already in over his head as a third wheel on CBS Mornings. To elevate him to anchor of the once-prestigious CBS Evening News screams „DEI-in-reverse.“ Edward R. Murrow and Walter Cronkite are spinning in their graves…

I watched Margaret Brennan interview a Trump sycophant a month ago. She asked totally softball questions, and she never dug into the answers. I turned CBS off in disgust and haven’t watched it since.
They have a political commissar in all but name. The person in charge is an up-jumped tabloid gossip columnist.
Why the fuck would I listen to what has essentially become state media?

PBS News Hour is WAY better than any of the major network news programs have been in years … and especially in the trump era.
I’d suggest watching and supporting them.
I’ve not been able to tolerate CBS|NBC|ABC for months and going back to PBS was mind-blowing. Accurate and in-depth.
Since they’re not getting any federal monies and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting has shutdown, we really need to support PBS and NPR and their local affiliates.

I’m a big Star Trek fan. I cancelled my Paramount Plus subscription because they have turned CBS into a Trump propaganda machine.. I hope others follow.

The ratings matter a lot less to the company than their relationship with the government, which affects deals worth billions. It’s a price they are completely willing to pay.
It’s win-win for Republicans since they got to kill a relatively unbiased source of fact-based news but as a business decision it’s insane… right-wing people will never watch CBS since it’s „left-wing“ and letting Bari Weiss take over just means they’ll lose their existing audience of moderates (real left-wing Americans don’t get their news from major networks so they were never watching in the first place).

Fun fact: I’m a music supplier to CBS and they pay royalty payments to my company quarterly. They missed their Q4 royalty payment because they didn’t have the cash flow.

I don’t know if Bari Weiss is smart enough to know this or not, but this is the entire point of why Trump did all this: to destroy. There was never a world where more people watched CBS after she took over, and linear television is already dying. He just sped up the process.
