  1. No, i dont think the right time for reunification is now. Moldova needs first to get rid of Russian influence and to re-educate the russified people.

We dont want so many Russian idiots + Transnistria + Gagauzia in Romania.

Edit: better to integrate in EU first and to let Russian influence slowly dissapear over time. Then we can talk again seriously about reunification in 2 decades or so.

  2. The best time for it was in the 90’ when both of us were poor and miserable. Now poor and miserable are just those without a Romanian passport

some of them are in favour, some of them against, like in any other situation… personally, if people from Moldova want this, I would welcome this, even if its something like UK… it can be United Kingdom of Romania and Moldova 🤜🤛

Real Romanians from Moldova have already obtained Romanian citizenship. Reunification would only add a large number of Russophiles to Romania and grant Dodon and other idiots the right to run for office. Romania already has plenty of idiots willing to give up to Russia, so imagine the resulting chaos. The situation in Gagauzia only makes things worse, like the cherry on top since the Romanian Constitution does not allow autonomous regions.

I was once a huge fan of the reunification, but I doubt it will ever happen due to these issues.

Seeing the Moldovan media (and regular people) go ape-shit, after one statement made on a podcast, relevant only if an actual referendum was initiated, as set out by the Constitution, is peak unemployment.

    Maybe it’s just January stuff

Hell yeah! We need more pro-EU and anti-Russian voices in Romania. Uniting with Moldova is the only way to ensure our European way and to deal a huge blow to that old fuck Putin

    It depends.

In Romania, well over 50% of the population would be in favour of reunification. The percentage may have gone a bit down from historic highs compared to the past years as some are considering the argument that such an integration would be economically difficult, especially now when the country’s coffers are in a very bad place.

In Moldova, historically, it’s been well lower than 50%. People argue that they prefer to have their own independence, some (particularly ethnic Gagauz, Russian speakers in Transnistria) prefer to be more closely aligned with Russia. Within Transnistria, for example, there has been a longstanding wave of anti-romanian sentiment, originating from the 1940s pogroms when Romania was aligned with the nazis and the early 90s war where russian speakers were afraid they would become second-class citizens if a unification with Romania would ever happen. On the other hand, since the Russian invasion, the percentage of people favouring a reunification has gone up due to the threat Russia poses on the country. Is it over 50%? Unsure.

as a romanian, i would support a reunification but i dont think it’s completely necessary, another solution could be increased cooperation between the countries and emphasising the shared national identities while still maintaining moldova’s independence

  9. The short and simple answer is that some would while some wouldn’t. At the moment there isn’t a majority in R. Moldova.

  10. I’m a person with 2 passports (MD and RU), which affects my (obviously subjective) opinion. I grew up in Russia and left in 2022, got my MD passport in 2023. I’m technically a Moldovan with voting power, so I’ll answer for myself.

I see 2 big groups of people in Moldova – pro-EU and anti-EU (frequently – pro-Russia). For me, Moldova is defined by having 2 very different political vectors. With that in mind, there is no „I want an option that people want“, as there are 2 options, each of which is desired by a big portion of the population (pro-EU portion seems to be overpowering the other lately). Hence, I focus on what I gain from one outcome or another.

Since I already have a Russian citizenship, I don’t need another passport of a pro-Russian country – I could’ve stayed in Russia if I wanted that. And I can return at any moment, as I’m not yet a criminal in there. So, rationally, I would support the unification – it helps to diversify my citizenship options. My logic here is that any system can go crazy to the point of „I can’t or don’t want to live here anymore“ (like Russia just now / in 2014 / earlier for some people). Having various options will allow me to choose, not to endure the circumstances.

Saying that, there are also questions like „will they attempt it?“ or „will they manage it?“. I think that right now, despite the pro-EU vector that we observe lately, Moldova is still too vulnerable to unify. And I believe that the government understands that and will not attempt it in the near future. I will be happy to be wrong here.

    That’s what I think.

  11. Personally I wouldn’t want Moldova to disappear as a sovereign country or a country at all, from the other hand I don’t want it to be anyhow as a part of Russia either and if it can’t survive alone, probably Romania joining is an answer, however I think entrance in EU should help as well, so pushing joining to Romania is doubtful.

  12. im not a fan of, i think we should stay neutral and be happy as our independent coutry

  13. TurbulentGrowth9814 on

I’m Romanian. I’m pro unification only if transnistria isn’t in it. Also we need to do something with the citizenship granting, because I know a lot of Moldovan citizens with Romanian passport that are very pro Russian voices, working in Romanian services system.

  14. The cost of reunification today would be probably between 20-40 billion euros.

We would be glad if we could share this financial burden with EU.

Russia wants Moldova because it’s sitting at a crossroads.

The US has its fingers in Moldova. The EU has its interests too.

Moldova is like that girlfriend everyone wants access to, but nobody wants to officially call it a relationship.

And let’s be real—no one really gives a fuck about Moldova itself. They care about the position, not the people.

Personally, I don’t want Moldova to disappear as a sovereign country. I don’t want it erased, merged, absorbed, or rewritten.
But at the same time, I don’t want it to be part of Russia either. That’s not the solution, that’s just another version of losing control.

    History repeats itself.

Look at the Ottoman Empire. Ask any historian from our side and they’ll tell you the Ottomans were our biggest enemy, that our biggest battles were against them.

Now go ask a Turkish historian. To them, we were nothing. Moldova and Romanian territories were just crossroads—side routes in conflicts between bigger powers. Their “wars” with us were just small bumps on the road. Musca în curu’ calului.

What I’m trying to say is simple: there are more powerful countries with bigger interests. We’re a small country, always looking for peace, non-aggression, just trying to exist without being dragged into someone else’s fight.

But the world doesn’t work that way.

And somehow, we’re always surprised by that.

  16. Romanian here, with how things are right now, I would be against it. I am all for helping our Moldovan brothers, but the Transnistria issue is real, we don’t need a russian military base in our territory.

Frankly, I don’t want a „contested“ territory being part of Romania, I am concerned it would make it way easier for us to become the next Ukraine.

If the Russian issue is solved and a large majority of Moldovans want to unite, then I will be all for it, though it feels like joining the EU and NATO would have pretty much the same results with them keeping much more of their independence.

  17. I am totally in favor of reunification but unfortunately it is impossible in the current state of affairs, whether because of Transnistria, because of the divide between pro-EU and pro-Russian boomers, or because of the economic difference between Romania and Moldova (it is preferable that the EU not finance Moldova during an accession like what happened for the former East Germany)

  18. scorpioblackout on

Romanian here, I’m all for it, this would be the biggest fuck you to Putin, Trump and all other major forces seeking division. Just imagine the hostorical importance of this happening in an age marked by division and conflict, it would be amazing

  19. Som33thingN on

we shouldve united in the 1990s or 2000s, since the moldovans wouldve been way better now, but id still like it however get transnistria out of here

  20. As a Romanian, I’ve always considered the Republic of Moldova to be part of Romania, but simply broken off by outside politics. I support the (re)unification wholeheartedly. In the long run, both countries stand nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Some issues remain, like the Russian troops stationed in Transnistria.
