Can’t wait for Schumer to fold & get nothing in return, just like he did on healthcare subsidies.

The real question is can they peel of votes from the 2-3 Rs with principles and the dozen or so that will have hellacious fights for re-election. I think a third group may also emerge- pissed off R reps who are being redistricted into retirement as a response to the Texas Rs. I have no doubt a couple of those give two flips about saving Mike Johnson from Trumps rath.
But the same Senators who folded because Rs were going to disrupt SNAP/assistance and starve folks will likely do so again unless they can get an immediate court injunction to make the administration use the reserve fund.

As a resident of Minneapolis for my entire adult life:
I’m not sure if people fully comprehend the daily fear and anxiety this „surge of now over 3,000 federal, masked troops“ into our state is adding to the living conditions here – it is really a very difficult thing to comprehend how this approach seems anything but punitive to the entire state and every additional person deployed here seems specifically designed to escalate rather than diffuse a very tense situation that seems to be deteriorating. Our elected representatives don’t want the Feds here under these circumstances and methodology. Our local law enforcement people don’t – and by and large – in the areas that they are focusing on: The general population doesn’t want them here.
Under these terms: They are an unwanted, occupying force.
I’m not going to lie – Both the wife and I are pretty, resilient, hardened people. We’re white – and we have chosen to live as the minorities in our neighborhood for the diversity – our block is as tightly knit as anywhere I have ever lived, and as such – has added – not taken away. We live in one of the poorest zip codes in the city, and we have seen our fair share amount of crime over our adult lives in here. It isn’t perfect but it is far from the narrative some want you to believe as well. People do thrive here! We’ve lived through George Floyd, and Lake Street burning…we’ve lived through other tense times.
None of what we have experienced in the past has had quite the demoralizing effect that this continued occupation has had. The Federal Government is clearly NOT sending their best people. These masked agents are abrasive and brazen and arrogant and truly believe they are above the law. Daily I am seeing people being stopped and harassed and sometimes ripped out of their vehicles and homes simply because they ‚fit some profile‘ within the terms of surnames or the color of their skin.
It is truly very sad. And humanizing and ultimately demoralizing. And it is happening in real time – all day long, every day, right outside my windows on my way to work and in my neighborhoods in a city that literally hadn’t experienced a homicide before the now Federally sanctioned execution of Good. According to our president – being disrespectful is enough to justify three bullets in the head.
I am disappointed and saddened to be an American right now. I have a brother in law who lives here too, who served 20 some years Air Force – and many like him are saddened that this is the best we can seem to do. He blatantly says, „This is NOT the America I risked my life for“.
Anyways — I think the most important things others can do is:
Send your love and support to those here. If you know someone who lives here and haven’t talked to them for a while – it would be a good time to check in on them. This is a really difficult time for many and we are being forced to process in real time and do the best we can.
Realize that after they are done here – they will probably be leaving and repeating the same terror on other targeted cities. It might be yours next so please prepare yourself mentally for this to happen. They will not stop until enough people say in unison ‚enough is enough‘ and that line, from where I stand, was crossed weeks ago already with the killing of Good and the following smear campaign. She did not deserve to lose her life – not by non compliance, not by compliance, not by panicking: and she certainly didn’t deserve to be labeled as a domestic terrorist. This is not an acceptable stance by our Federal Government – we deserve better.
Call your own state reps. Write emails. Pound on their office doors — This is government that is supposed to be from bottom up — and yes: In a healthy way they should be afraid of their population – because they are beholden to us. Somewhere along the lines that messaging has been lost: And it seems we are beholden to them. This is also wrong. Demand to be heard, and demand action once heard.
Take care of yourself and hug your kids. I don’t have any – but truly — those folks with kids are the ones that I feel for the most: In my lifespan I’ve witnessed at least a glimmer of a moral and just America — its been a while since I’ve seen it good by any means – as my generation has witnessed so many rug pulls and curtains pulled back on who we truly are — but this current path: This is a dark one. A sad, and unfortunate one. And unnecessary.
There’s got to be a better path than this one – and yes: we have a right to demand it, and we should.
