Seriously though, never have I been more sure a company wouldn’t want to use AI than GW, it’s so baked into 40k’s lore I’d assumed the company just hated AI as a concept since the 80’s

It’s turning into a meme that someone doesn’t use AI but what they mean is they use AI and then an artist replaces the AI.

Among their various successes, GW are known for the massive amount of visual art they have commissioned and produced over the decades. Using AI would be antithetical to their brand

I don’t blame the brush for being what it is, a ban is not needed for me. As long as the artist is respected and given liberty to wield the tools in a manner that works.
Games Workshop unexpected voice of reason
Is this the game that has the community known to release classified manuals of vehicles for the game to be more realistic? If so, yeah the fan base clearly wouldn’t want AI
Honestly, great move. They see what it is doing to magic and d&d and they said „okay, best idea is to do the opposite of what that sinking ship is doing!“ good on them!!! Full props for being smart about it.
The irony, if 10 years down the line Warhammer becomes prestige literature.
Their core product is based on the creative arts.
They’d be dumb to comprimise that with AI slop.
AI art in general looks bad, but it’s particularly bad at making Warhammer designs. It all ends up looking like a parody of a parody.
The tech that’s going to render currently rich developer guys into unemployable dinosaurs? Oh they don’t like that?
It wasn’t all that long ago that gamesworkshop didn’t even have digital models for most of their products.
I worked on a project with them, and they told us that couldn’t provide us with digital references for a lot of the products they were wanting us to use. Not because they didn’t trust us with them or anything, just all they had was a clay sculpture they then made castings out of.
So their compromise was initially to send us photos, but they got bored really quick with that and just shipped us a bunch of physical products
