In a Reddit post, Bandcamp announced that AI-generated content would not be permitted on the platform and would be subject to removal.

Genuinely wish them luck on this.
If we get a real example of a company benefitting from doing something like this, then maybe we’ll see some change for the better.
Because, unfortunately, that’s how our world works, a business case must always be made to make progress.

I’m glad Bandcamp is doing this. I buy a lot of music there and it’s good to know they stand on the good side of this issue and support artists.
Interesting, aren’t they owned by Epic Games? Tim Sweeney loves defending AI slop.
As a person who has problem to find a new job cause the impact of AI, I still think we can’t stop this to happen. It’s like Metallica vs Napster.
Music it’s just pleasure, if for some reason I discover that a software learn my taste and makes music that I can enjoy, why should I feel guilty?

Something a lot of people keep forgetting is that you can’t copyright AI produced work. That means any of these „AI“ songs can’t legally be sold on their platform since the uploader can’t transfer distribution rights.
Didn’t realize they were considered a “major” platform.
Banning fully AI generated music is one thing but banning partially AI generated music is not going to work out for them. Especially considering a large portion of musicians are using AI in their workflow.

If they don’t make some concessions with AI they will have to ban a lot of musicians from their platform.
