Jakarta – 42m.
The Jakarta urban area is the biggest urban area in the world now, surpassing Tokyo. [The UN, the source of this 2018 data in the infographic, recently noted Jakarta’s population as the largest](https://www.theguardian.com/world/2025/nov/27/jakarta-overtakes-tokyo-most-populous-city-world).
What about Istanbul?
Did this map cut Istanbul right in middle so it doesn’t appear? It has 15 million people, weird its not there

Moscow’s urban area is 20 million.
I’m surprised Paris outpaces London.
Lagos is AT LEAST 20m inhabitants
America is a whole single continent.
It is weird, for some cities agglomeration is counted, for others just city. I.e. cairo population is ~9 mil, while aglomeration is ~21. Same with Moscow ~13 mil just city, ~19 with aglo.
Shouldn’t Istanbul be for Europe? It is larger than Moscow.

**Asia** should have:
1 Jakarta, Indonesia 41.9 Miliion
2 Dhaka Bangladesh 36.6 Million
**Africa**: Lagos, Nigeria 12.8 Million
**Europe:** Istanbul, Turkey 16.4 Million
