I agree that the public service is bloated but damn StatsCan is globally acclaimed for the quality of their work so I’m not a big fan of this one.

Feels especially sinister to run on „caps, not cuts“ and then start cutting

Not a fan of hearing of people losing jobs these days but to keep it in context, **850 jobs cut from Statistics Canada puts it just above 2023 levels (6,219)**. They, like many government departments, were hiring like crazy in the last few years.

So for those saying they’re worried about a big drop in quality and ability of the department, I’d say that’s unlikely. Unless you think there was a marked improvement very recently and that it was poor just a few years ago.

If you wanted to go back 10 years then they only had 4,890 staff, so they grew by 2,384 or almost 50% since then.

they do almost nothing as it is , had a friend who worked there 

So they make sure no one knows wtf is going on… great!
