Not sure if Sri Lanka actually has a national animal. But the best options would be either the Sri Lankan Elephant, Lion or Sri Lankan Junglefowl (which is considered the national bird). The giant squirrel which some consider the national animal, is not that suitable, given the fact that its a pest and farmers hate it.

Grizzled Giant Squirrel is the national animal of Sri Lanka. There are proposals to “dethrone” it due to unpopularity. As far as I know those proposals have not come into effect yet.
The closest thing would be the Merlion and not lion.

Can someone plese tell Singapore that lions are not native to Asia and they are originally from Africa, one thing is have a city name after the lion, but have him as national animal when national animals are supposed to be one that people feel proud.

Why do the Indian and Bangladeshi Bengal tigers look different?
Nothing beats having the tiger as the national animal though. Watching one in the wild has been my best wildlife experience by far. What a majestic beast. The true and only king. (Lions can go fuck themselves)

So Tiger is the most common national animal in Asia.
