The Kayan are a subgroup of the Karenni. Their language is related to Vietnamese, Khmer, Wa, Ta’ang, and others in the Austroasiatic family.

The Dry Zone/Anyar is majority Bamar and has not seen large-scale fighting until 2021 onwards, The weapons used range from Vietnam-era M16s and WW2 M1 Carbines to AK/Type 81 clones and M320/M203 clones made by the Kachin Independence Army. A common marksman rifle is the Ruger Precision, which is ultimately smuggled from Thailand. Common captured weapons include clones of Galils, HK rifles (G3s, 33s, etc.), and Glocks.
