Im Anschluss an eine Online Petition (die fast 3 Millionen Unterschriften erreichte) hat die britische Regierung heute eine große Kehrtwende bei den Plänen zur digitalen ID vollzogen und sie als obligatorisch für die Arbeit abgeschafft.

Good, but they shouldn’t let their guard down with stuff like this. The government will find another way to force it.
You need an NI number and ID to work in the UK, none of these are asked for by employers of illegal immigrants.
To get the digital ID, you need, birth certificate, NI number and Photo ID, which we already have, yet, thousands are employed illegally without these.
One more ID wouldn’t change a thing…

What’s that manipulation technique called where you ask for something a lot more than you actually want?
„Mom can I borrow $500?“
„No, that is silly.“
„OK how about $50?“
„Soon you will need digital ID to be able to work.“
„Noooooo!“
„OK how about you only need one for a bank account and to access the internet?“
so the point of still doing this is what?
