I am at the airport right now. I have to go where my company sends me. But I don’t buy anything but food when I am in the USA.

I think I’ll steer clear of that shit hole until the summary executions subside.

I know people will respond with „Why isn’t this 100%?!“ but a 28% decrease in any sector is MASSIVE.
That will be hugely impactful to businesses that rely on tourism.

Again. ONLY 28%?! Who is still going there? Stop it. Bad Canuck. Be loyal. Stay away from their chaos.

Should be more. What a disgrace of a country.

I think what a lot of people are also not realizing about „Only 28%“ is that a lot of these people had already planned trips they couldn’t back out of, and that’s on top of major events that already booked spaces/hotels/restraints/etc.
This year, once we have had enough information about how Trump’s government has changed everyday life for everyone, I feel like it’ll be a bigger drop. Especially with their mass arrests/kidnappings.

Considering the timing of it, that’s pretty impressive given how much of travel costs can be non-refundable and how frequently folks book that kind of travel in advance.
Personally I cancelled my trip to Boston last spring, and my work cancelled a couple of conference registrations for events we were regulars at sighting the new administration when cancelling with the event organizers.
vote in a egomaniac and pay the price. I think the 2026 visitation numbers will be very interesting, especially when you factor in Fifa. On the flip side, at least in my area of Canada, US travel was mostly unaffected. Whatever negative affects there might’ve been were completely over powered by the positive affects of the increase in domestic and EU travel

Way too many American firms in Canada that send employees to the US for events and training, where the employees have no say

Now can those flight prices come down? I love traveling to the US. I’ve done more in 2025 than any other year and I plan to go again soon!

Cutting out going to the US is akin to quitting smoking. You go through withdrawal, but once you are past that, it really gets easier. Eventually, it becomes something you used to do.
You don’t have to make it a war cry. Most don’t care if you quit either habit. Just make it happen, and you will be better off without getting sucked into the news cycle.

It’s getting expensive to travel to the states plus the conversion rate is brutal so not surprised about the plunge.

As long as they shoplift at Whole Foods while they’re there, I’m ok with it.

I think that right away you have to back out a percentage for business travel.
Then you’re going to have the high percentage travellers near borders that don’t care and continue to cross on a weekly basis to shop, dine, whatever. They might drastically over index on the total visits.
The question is how many “unique” visitors are crossing. How many vacations are cancelled.
I mean those sort of large spend events are much more impactful vs Joe from Fort Erie that crosses to buy cheese and fill up with gas.
28% is a lot of people, and I think it might even be a underrepresented number of people when you really think about it.
I had travel plans for this past spring and summer where I was taking a cruise and it was already paid for and frankly I didn’t want to lose the money.
However, I’ve booked nothing for 2026, and my last shopping trip was Dec 2024. I used to go for a night away about every 2-3 months. Now it’s zero.
So a lot of trips might have been pre planned prior to the idiocy. I bet these numbers continue to fall.

I’m super annoyed at the number of competitive sports teams that still going to the US for tournaments. I know my daughter’s team asked what our opinions were and a lot of us said we would not want to go. But I know a few other teams that have tournaments in the US, and the coach basically said if you’re not coming to the tournaments I’ll replace you on the team. If you want to coveted spot in a competitive team and your coach doesn’t care you kind of have no choice. It really sucks
