Anyone with real understanding of Moldovan internal politics who can explain why is she against special military operation in Transnistria by Ukraine?

Moldova and Romania reuniting would be the geopolitical equivalent of a wholesome family reunion just with more paperwork.

Most recent polling I can find has support for unifcation at 31% against 61% opposed. Transnistria is a key issue and while cheap russian gas has stalled due to the Ukraine War as long as the Russian military is based there the risk that unification would spark a civil war are very high

I wonder if people who voted for her are happy now.

Before commenting any Moldovan poll, people should be aware that the people surveyed are Moldovan residents. Therefore, the opinion of the huge diaspora (17.5% of the voters at the 2025 parliamentary elections, ~80% of which voted for Sandu’s party) is not taken into account.

except she refuses tu initiate the referendum in which she would vote „for reunification“.

It would be a seismic political coup for the EU and increase Romanias agricultural output.

But does Romania want bunch of russians?
Trust me, they demand their lagnuage to be teached, rarely speak native language ( but understands ).
For Moldova continuing to develop and if it wants to be part of the EU, a member. But Transnistria and meeting the requirements should be resolved first.

There’s no real way to do this, Moldova is like 20 years behind Romania and they need to get rid of the Russian influence, especially Transnistria.

I think that Transnistria would just become the next GDR. There really aren’t any opportunities there anyways and I can see many young Transnistrians either leave for Russia or Western Europe. It wouldn’t be as dramatic as the population decline in the GDR due to its size but still.
