There’s so few you could have labelled them.
Why is there a striped square in the legend for exactly 30%, but no corresponding county? Or is the resolution just too bad for me to make it out?
Even if there’s one there that I’m missing, what is gained by having “exactly 30%” that would be lost by having “20-29”, “30-39”, “40-49”, and “over 50”?
Multnomah, OR must’ve just missed the 20%
Its mad given how many other large cities are in California, Los Angeles County is still over 20%
The fact NYC is also five counties probably dilutes it, but a little surprised that kings county doesn’t quite get over.
To answer the obvious question about New York City, 40% of New Yorkers live there, and 2/3 live in the NYC metro area, but NYC is so big it is divided across at least 5 counties.
I’m a bit surprised Cass snuck in for North Dakota. Fargo is definitely the biggest city but outside of that there’s only a handful of other small towns in the county, and I figured the other ND cities combined would have pushed Cass to less than 20%
Fargo area is definitely expanding though, lots of people moving in
So no one lives in central Delaware.
Delaware is the funniest result. 2 of the 3 😆
Delaware and Rhode Island are just cheating
Doesn’t Fairfield County have about 100,000 more people than Hartford County?
Where is NYC?
8.8 M OUT 22 M STATE WIDE
We need to talk about that color scheme…
Colorado misses this by accident. More than 50% of the state live in the Denver metro, but it’s split between 7 counties.
Is that supposed to be Suffolk county in Mass?
City and county of Honolulu has to be the winner. It’s got like 90% of the population of Hawaii.
Nothing goes on in Nevada except mining and gambling.
Fun fact: Phoenix, AZ (in Maricopa county, which is the highlighted county in AZ) is the most populous state capital in the US.
And for what it’s worth, Arizona (and pretty much most western states) have massive counties in comparison to east coast and Midwest states, so while a lot of people live in Phoenix, if the state had dozens of little counties like our east coast brethren there’s a good chance Maricopa county wouldn’t be highlighted like that since there’s about ~1.6m people in the city of Phoenix and around 5m in the surrounding suburbs.
For sake of comparison by area; Phoenix proper encompasses about 520 square miles, the valley (what locals call the Phoenix metro) encompasses 14k square miles and the county only makes up 9200 sq/mi of that. By comparison of a random east coast state; Pennsylvania’s average county area is 618 sq miles, meaning you could fit 15 PA counties into Maricopa county.
TLDR: lots of people, lots of space, easy to highlight when it covers such a large area.
I don’t wanna live in Missouri, Iowa or Minnesota, but I also don’t wanna walk any further west
Fairfield county has more people than Hartford county. Fairfield, Hartford and New Haven counties all have more than 20% of the state. Bad map. Shame
Western counties tend to be physically larger too.
