It’s politics and they don’t really care about the issues involved.

Its still probably the best or second best platform for getting your message out to constituency.
Instagram just doesn’t really work for most politicians as it all photos not text based.
Until someone manages to get a critical mass of the public off twitter and onto another platform, many politicians will stay.
And its not just government politicians still on there.

Bad enough that it becomes an issue for other people who them make it hard for the politician, because waiting for politicians to express moral outrage independently will be a long wait.

Protecting children and punishing producers of child abuse images might make their job slightly harder.
They might have to use Facebook.

It’s very annoying when talk shows or radio shows reference Twitter as if it’s an accurate barometer for discourse in Ireland. It hasn’t been for a long time, but I guess still is for politicians and journalists who think the island revolves around them.

Remember this when they lie to you about needing to show your identity online to “ protect the children”

White supermacy, anti India narrative and now sexual images. X is not going to survive for long, but hey Musk knows more about successful businesses. Wonder why is he allowing these to go on.

can’t recommend bluesky enough. you can block people en masse, and most „hot takes“ are off the site through mass reporting within hours

If you spend ten minutes on twitter, you feel like having a shower afterwards. I still find it depressing that there are so many ‚Christians‘ who spew so much hate (i guess its always been that way?), although they are a minority they’re gaining traction in the real world more and more – you know when some random person parrots a talking point. Eddie Hobbs and his cronies had a hate festival in Meath over the weekend i wonder how many attended.

Well this sub has over 1 million members but only a few dozen ever post here, and is as old as Xitter. Subscriber only articles is why no one reads the Times any more.

Maybe I missed the boat I didn’t join Twitter until like 2020, barely used it and then deleted it immediately after Musk did the Sieg Hail salute when Trump won.
Why do people find it so hard to leave Twitter when there is so many other forms of getting information? The place is a cesspit of lies and bots and people hiding behind fake names. So many politicians esp in America have tweeted as if they were other people/race/ethnicity to pretend they had some form of support in those communities or weren’t racist because they had supporters.
AND NOW THIS!!!! F&&king thing with allowing people to put up fake images of kids and friends and Musk defends it???
I get it’s seen as a great source of info but lads are you sure it’s always the correct info?? The loudest voices often have the worst to say and people like to be very loud on Twitter for clicks,,you’re only adding to the noise delete it until Musk sells it or

It’s not only politicians everyone uses it from state bodies to private companies. And plenty individuals. Dump it today and you will realise by the weekend that you never actually needed it

Not just politicians but state bodies. Twitter/X is a source of constant grief for countries. Just deplatform.from it. It’s not the only social media platform out there. Some are even federated so governments could run their own servers and keep metadata from falling into the hands of nosy spy agencies.

I’m gone from Twitter despite having a long history there. (Left about a year after the regime change).
I imagine at this stage it’s just politicians trying to reach journalists and vice versa. (Outside of the far right content).

Question for /r/ireland – how many of you have a twitter account? And how many are active. And why?
