The powers that be lie about all manner of statistics to socially engineer things. Remember Covid deaths? That was just a naked example of it because they had little time to about face the narrative. But when it comes to things such as demographics especially in the context of discussions about race, religion, names etc. It is very much „ethical“ to not disclose true numbers, but you can see the truth in how laws, policies, hand waving of things occur by the government. Most governments do not even care to know how many peoples are in their country, because then people would begin asking questions of how it happened and raising uncomfortable questions for those in power, causing problems they have to solve or loom over their heads. Census data is way off.

Its certainly not super accurate. I’m still never clear on what the supposed benefit of inflating the number globally is though. Unless you’re assuming its inflated by something like double the actual population it doesn’t really have much effect whether there are 8 billion people or 6 billion people
College football (and I think pro) attendance keeps dropping. Look at schools like Yale, Cal, etc. They had huge stadiums that hardly anyone goes to anymore. It’s down across the board. Maybe its because of less people…

There was a recent study that concluded there are many countries who’s census data is essentially wholly unreliable, with significant percentages that wouldnt have been included, like mass homeless encampment in areas of tge middle east, various principalities around India, etc.
China’s ghosts towns are not unexplained. There are two major factors.
Prior to the collapse of the real estate market when Evergrande went bankrupt one of the biggest methods of propping up the economy was construction. They built numerous ghost cities that had accommodation for millions but which never saw more than a few thousand move in. One of the only avenues of investment available to Chinese citizens is buying apartments to resell (technically leasing since everyone can only lease for 70 years max as all land is owned by the government).
So the massive construction projects created jobs and investment opportunities but there were not physically enough people to occupy all these buildings. There are cases where people did get an apartment and move in but basically have an entire skyscraper to themselves because almost every apartment is empty and there isn’t enough work to encourage more people to move in. Some of these cities did later fill out, some remain empty and some were demolished.
The second factor is the decline of rural communities. China has a huge internal migrant population which lives in rural areas but spend most of the time in the cities working. Often the old folk stay behind and take care of the kids. Recently China has closed down a bunch of rural schools because there were cases where there were more teachers at the school than kids. Since there isn’t enough work in these rural communities over time it has encouraged migration to the cities. In many cases the government have evicted rural communities for infrastructure development.
China obviously lost far more people to Covid than they claim but I don’t think this is the most significant factor behind most of the ghost towns.

There is A LOT of people in the world and some people have trouble picturing all those other lives just going about their days. We shouldn’t question the population based on that.
That being said however, the world population is not counted. It’s modeled based off number of cities, sizes, and estimated surplus populations needed to supply the cities.
This has a host of problems in that different levels of complex systems with be more or less efficient at supplying those cities.
Anytime a number or data is given to you as a definitive, but on closer inspection was arrived at by modeling out a sample of inputs, you should question it.
I take it you’ve never been to these places and see how they actually live and how fucking congested and ridiculous it is. I don’t think all the people around Hong Kong would fit in LA much less the entire world personally but who knows lol.
even if all governments gave a fuck enough 2 accurately count how many people live in their countries, there’s no way 4 us 2 know exactly how many people live on earth. many births and deaths go uncounted
It’s more nuanced. China is 100% inflating its numbers. But I firmly believe the number in Western countries is way higher (+10%) than official records show, mostly due to immigration. And S-America, Asia and Africa.. who knows.

In the 90’s it was common to say that the earth has 6 billion people.
Nowadays, it’s common to day the earth has 8 billion people.
If our population is actually growing 2 billion people every 30 years, we actually have a massive overpopulation problem.
However, the birth rate crisis and lack of people having babies tells a different story.
India people do live in villages. And census is pretty thorough. Though it’s old because COVID happened. The delay in census taking because of it and some crucial political decisions needed once it’s taken. Which can actually split India, if gone wrong.
There was 642 million votes casted in India’s 2024 general elections.
China has no where close to the people they say they do.
I’ve been thinking this for years. 8 BILLION is a LOT. Everywhere I have even been there is by far open space than occupied(by occupied I mean there is not a person in the space, not that no one lives there). There also 10’s of millions hectares of completely unused space, then millions more of farm land & things of that nature. In my tiny highly uneducated mind it just seems like 8 billion is high. I’m not good at wording this the way I think it, I reckon.
Since virtually everything we’ve ever been taught or learned is a fucking lie, this only makes sense.
There was a graph on reddit lately that showed birth numbers and Pakistan (I think it was) had nearly the same amount as china so Chinas population accuracy seems questionable
coming from rural Indian, I can attest that don’t be surprised that atleast 60-70% does live in villages, well atleast in north, since agriculture is primarily source of income.
there’s a village atleast every few kilometres in any direction with average population of atleast 2000, land shares are much smaller compared to west.

I just had to look some numbers up but New York city has 8 mil people and new York state has nearly 19 mil. We also have Albany and Buffalo which is only 300k people.
So 11 million people live in rural New York.
In countries like India they just pump kids out left and right. European and Americans have very low birthrates and you still see that significantly more people live in rural areas when combined all together than big cities.
Not to say China doesnt lie all the time and could be lying about their population but millions on millions living in India? I could beleive it. Ive been to many American cities. Ive seen what the most crowded areas look like. Ive seen videos of Indian and Chinese cities and it looks like total fucking chaos with hundreds of people moving on each “ block“ they very well could have 100’s millions more than us if one singular block looks like that
Delhi alone is over 3 times new York city and by videos of Delhi I would believe it. My own town has 70k people. Sure doesnt look like 70k but our census says that.
People aren’t being born where eugenicists like Elon Musk want them bring born. The population is still sharply increasing in India, Africa, and South America but below replacement level in North America and Western Europe. China’s growth stopped because of two generations of the one child policy.

Just look at the recent mayoral election New York City. Only 2.2 million people voted out of a city of over 8 million. That 8 million figure certainly fake. New York City probably only has 4 million at most.
Have you ever played a city simulator game? It is almost impossible to build a city over 1 million. It would just be wall to wall skyscrapers over the entire map. New York does have a lot of skyscrapers but building enough to house 8 million would be truly absurd. There are cities all over the 3rd world that claim to have populations of 15 million to 20 million people. They hardly have any skyscrapers at all. Where are they hiding all those people. Where are they living? Where are the apartments for all these millions and millions of people. The math doesn’t add up. Their population claims are wholly absurd.
Cities all over the world are making up numbers to scam extra money from governments and aid organizations. The more the bureaucrats lie about city sizes, the more money they get. So they lie about fake numbers until the cows come home.

I’ve read “ more humans, better GDP”. I don’t agree that GDP should be based off how many people you have in a country but it’s of the things they base it off and not the only.
Also if you’ve got say 2-3 billion humans, then why do we have such expensive price? As we have no lack of certain resources.
Come to India or visit any south Asian country. You’ll think the numbers are under represented.
I have lived in India, if anything their population census is under reported. There are people who have sneaked in from neighbouring countries and disappear as soon as the census comes along.
The cities are bursting at the seams. No water, pollution everywhere, not enough food, health care sector stretched, dog eat dog world
