Netanyahu said he wants Israel to gradually end US military aid within the next 10 years and not fully renew the current aid package when it expires in 2028. He said Israel has become strong enough economically and militarily to be more independent.
As far as I remember, this isn’t the first time Israel has debated whether to continue accepting the roughly $3 billion in annual US aid. But this is the first time such an announcement was made.
Arguments for ending it have been raised for decades, including claims that it led Israel to shut down certain domestic factories because it became cheaper to buy American equipment using the aid, even for basic needs like tank shells. Which in turn makes Israel partially dependent on the US, giving it leverage over Israeli actions.
An interesting question is what would happen to US military aid to Egypt if assistance to Israel were to end, since both were part of the same agreement. What do you think?

If this actually does happen, will the college students start to pay as much attention to Israel/Palestine as they do to Sudan, given that their main reason for doing so now is because „it’s different because my government is funding a genocide?“ Methinks not.

The second the US stops supporting Israel is the second the greater Middle East region glasses Israel. Netanyahu is drinking more of the same strongman bullshit kool-aid. Israel would 1000% not exist if not for the protection of the US and all the pretty toys that go boom boom the US provides Israel.
