Have you seen the snagging YouTube channels they show things like gaps in windows and windowsills. They are shit made and will therefore leak hot air
Looks around the ice-cave that is his early 19th century townhouse: welcome to the party pal!
Here’s the thing Avant, if multiple people are reporting the same thing, over a whole bunch of your properties, the home owners aren’t the problem – your building is.
Not that I’m surprised – you couldn’t pay me to own a modern new build estate home, what with all the cut corners.
No cavity walls and plaster on outside walls will do that but certain sections of society believe the nonsense that is “ a new build looks good, so it must be”.
I’d never buy one, as I’ve seen the corners with my own eyes, on they build them so cheaply and then cut as many corners as humanly possible. The price that you pay for one, isn’t what they are worth.
It’s kind of crazy how expensive houses in this country are yet their quality is pretty dogshit.
All of the new builds are shit
no one is holding these companies to account. there’s no push back so they continue to profit from the inflates prices and poor quality
It’s grim up north. These people need to take advantage of insulation to stay warm. Air pumps, draught excluders, that sort of thing
We’re in a climate emergency and can’t be cranking up the heating to 25° like in the old days
if i remember correctly, only Portugese houses are worse in keeping the heat in.
British houses are proper crap in that matter. try to leave them without the heating for few days and see what happens
In Germany all houses have proper insulation, it’s just a UK house problem. When I visit home I have to opem the window at least twice per day because the air gets stuffy because there isn’t any draft.
Avant homes owner – boiler illegally fitted. Holes in wall behind kitchen cabinets. Rat got in, chewed through washing machine hose and had a spill from the washing machine. Bedroom freezing. Boiler never worked properly since I moved in.
There are new builds and new builds. My mother lives in a premium new build which is fantastic. The whole estate was done very well, but then it is in an area that has high house prices.
my house is old, it was drafty, still is fairly drafty even after doing the new double glazed windows (installed by a couple of amateurs, my dad with a little experience decades ago and myself with no experience). four doors worth are still old and single glazed and leak heat like crazy.
but still zero trouble with the heat pump keeping it very toasty in winter. dirt cheap to run as well. idk wtf they’re doing to muff up these new build homes so badly. if it really is just drafts and insultation that really doesn’t seem to hard to fix (not that they should have to, the houses should be sold in a good state with good prospects).
Personal experience, I’m in a new build 2 bed terraced house.
Toasty warm, no draughts, 90 quid per month gas and electric.
One side had a barking collie and the other side used to have a baby. We didn’t hear a peep.
Contrast that with the High Street flat we lived in, cold, draughty and cost a fortune to maintain. You can keep it, I’m quite happy where I am now.
I was worried when my parents moved in 2022 to a new build, but they haven’t spent a penny on heating at all in the last 3 years, they’ve got solar attached to electric boiler I think, and it’s so well insulated that we were in shorts and t-shirts for Xmas
We’re in an Avant new build in the midlands and have had no issues so far, about 2/3 years lived in now. Had a boiler issue when we first moved in, but was fixed the day after we reported it. I will say one of our neighbours has had no luck with them tho, constantly had issues and vans to their house across several months due to bodge jobs, must of rushed theirs for completion.
